Trump’s denial of Epstein letter signature ‘makes no sense’: Sarah Bedford

The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Bedford questioned why President Donald Trump is denying a signature on a letter he allegedly gave to Jeffrey Epstein years before the disgraced financier’s first conviction.

President Donald Trump denied the legitimacy of a birthday letter to Epstein bearing his signature, saying Tuesday it’s “not my signature and not the way I speak.” The letter is part of the first set of documents from Epstein’s estate that the House Oversight Committee released last week.

Bedford, the Washington Examiner’s investigations editor, said Sunday it is “extremely plausible” Trump’s signature on the letter is valid, saying all the other letters “so far as we know” are authentic. She also said it doesn’t make sense why the Trump administration is spending this much time denying the letter.

“The letter doesn’t add anything new to our understanding of Donald Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. We know they were friends in the early 2000s, years before Jeffrey Epstein’s first conviction on child prostitution in Florida. There is nothing nefarious about Donald Trump having signed a birthday card that was put across his desk at the time, so the denial makes no sense,” Bedford said on Fox News’s MediaBuzz

Bedford also said it is plausible someone else wrote the letter and that Trump signed it. She added that the Trump White House’s handling of the Epstein saga has worsened this problem, listing its overpromising and underdelivering of the Epstein files.

“The way they have handled it, though, has made the White House appear guilty when there’s never been a scintilla of evidence that Donald Trump did anything wrong. If there had been, it certainly would have leaked by now. The interest in this now, from Democrats, from the media, is completely self-serving to try to get Donald Trump, and he’s handed them more of a problem with the way he’s handled it,” Bedford said.

Charlie Gasparino, a Fox Business senior correspondent, said Trump likely doesn’t remember signing this letter, saying Trump signs “a lot of stuff” like autographs.

KAELAN DEESE SAYS LATEST EPSTEIN RELEASE IS A ‘DOUBLE WIN’ FOR REPUBLICANS

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) asked in a letter obtained by the Washington Examiner why the FBI has not released an alleged client list maintained by Epstein. He also asked why FBI Director Kash Patel is “protecting” those implicated in this.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) set up a procedural vote on Wednesday on an amendment requiring Attorney General Pam Bondi to release any Justice Department records connected to Epstein and his associates. Meanwhile, Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY) discharge petition to force a vote for a full release of the criminal files related to Epstein is just two signatures away.
