Trump warns we ‘can’t do business’ in South Korea without changes
The article reports on former President Donald TrumpS concerns regarding recent developments in South Korea ahead of his meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. Trump described the situation in South Korea as resembling a “purge or revolution” and emphasized that the United States “can’t do business there” without changes. The meeting takes place amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula, including North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s recent testing of new air defense missiles and incidents near the heavily fortified border between North and South Korea. South Korea is also facing an economic downturn but has implemented measures to support low-income families and small businesses. Trump, who previously negotiated tariff reductions with South Korea, expressed his intention to meet Kim Jong Un later in the year and urged attention to the evolving situation in South Korea.
Trump warns we ‘can’t do business’ in South Korea without changes
President Donald Trump voiced his concern about a “revolution” in South Korea ahead of his meeting with the country’s president, Lee Jae Myung.
“WHAT IS GOING ON IN SOUTH KOREA? Seems like a Purge or Revolution,” Trump wrote Monday on Truth Social before the meeting.
“We can’t have that and do business there. I am seeing the new President today at the White House. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!” Trump continued.
The meeting comes after North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the testing of two new air defense missiles on Saturday. The Korean Central News Agency said the two missiles were launched at targets in order to test their “combat capability.”
The test came as South Korea fired warning shots after North Korean troops briefly crossed the heavily fortified border between the countries last week.
As South Korea nears its 80th anniversary of liberation, the country is in the midst of an economic downturn. However, Lee Joon-ho, chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, credited “President Lee’s quick action” as he implemented “a supplementary budget that supported low-income families, small businesses, and domestic consumption.”
