Trump warns Republicans will ‘never see office again’ if they don’t ‘TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!’

Former President Donald Trump has strongly urged Republican lawmakers to eliminate the Senate filibuster, warning that failure to do so could cost them their political careers. Trump criticized the filibuster as a Senate delay tactic, especially amid the ongoing government shutdown, which had reached its 38th day. He emphasized that Republicans should use the “nuclear option” to end the filibuster, allowing legislation to pass by a simple majority and thus resolve the shutdown. Despite trump’s calls, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and many GOP senators have resisted abolishing the filibuster, with about 47% of Republican senators supporting its continuation. The filibuster remains a contentious issue, with both parties historically shifting their stance depending on who controls the Senate. The Senate was preparing for another vote on a funding bill to end the shutdown, though importent progress was not expected.

Trump warns Republicans will ‘never see office again’ if they don’t ‘TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!’

President Donald Trump has remained unyielding in his mission to end the filibuster, warning GOP lawmakers on Friday morning that they risk being voted out of office if they don’t get on board with terminating it.

Trump has railed against the Senate delay tactic during the government shutdown, calling on Republican senators to destroy the filibuster power and end the shutdown through a simple majority vote. As the shutdown entered its 38th day on Friday morning, Trump posted a series of Truth Social posts reasserting his position.

“Republicans, Terminate the Filibuster and bring back the American Dream,” he wrote. “If you don’t do it, the Dems will, and you’ll never see office again! President DJT.”

Following a Democratic sweep on Election Day on Tuesday, Trump demanded that GOP senators get behind his plan to nuke the filibuster, saying the shutdown was a “bigger factor, negative, for the Republicans,” on Tuesday.

“Just say NO (Nuclear Option!),” Trump wrote on Friday. “TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has been adamant that the votes are not there to get rid of the long-standing delay tactic and has maintained since the start of his tenure that the filibuster would not change under his watch. According to a Washington Examiner poll of GOP lawmakers, 47% of Republican senators wish to keep the filibuster in place.

While many leaders on both sides of the aisle have called for filibuster reform, each party tends to flip-flop on the matter when they are in control of the chamber.

Trump also railed against the filibuster on several occasions during his first term, according to Politico. In 2017, he posted, “Republican Senate must get rid of 60 vote NOW! It is killing the R Party, allows 8 Dems to control country. 200 Bills sit in Senate. A JOKE!”

WHERE EVERY SENATE REPUBLICAN STANDS ON TRUMP’S CALL TO END THE FILIBUSTER

The Senate is expected to take another vote on the House-passed solution to end the shutdown on Friday, marking the 15th vote on the stopgap funding bill.

Lawmakers do not expect the results of Friday’s vote to be any different, as progressive Democrats urge their more centrist counterparts to stand firm on their fight to include Obamacare subsidies.
