Trump unveils ‘Patriot Games’ for US’s 250th anniversary

Former President Donald Trump has announced the “Patriot Games,” a new four-day athletic event set for July 4, 2026, to celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary. The competition will feature the top high school athletes-one male and one female-from each state and territory. Trump emphasized that there will be no mixed-gender sports participation, stating,”You’re not going to see men playing in women’s sports.” This event follows other planned celebrations, including a UFC fight at the White House, a National Garden of Heroes, and a Great American State Fair on the National Mall. The Fourth of July festivities will be coordinated by the nonpartisan association Freedom 250 in partnership with the National Park Foundation. UFC President Dana White has indicated that fighter negotiations for the White House UFC event will start in early 2026, with Conor McGregor expressing interest in participating. Details on how athletes for the Patriot Games will be selected have yet to be announced.

President Donald Trump revealed another event slated for July Fourth, 2026, to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary.

“In the fall, we will host the first-ever Patriot Games, an unprecedented four-day athletic event featuring the greatest high school athletes, one young man and one young woman from each state and territory,” Trump said in a video Thursday.

“But I promise there will be no men playing in women’s sports. You’re not going to see that. You’ll see everything but that,” Trump added.

These Patriot Games come after Trump has teased a UFC event at the White House, a National Garden of Heroes, and a Great American State Fair on the National Mall, featuring pavilions from all 50 states, from June 25 to July 10.

Fourth of July events will be coordinated by Freedom 250, a nonpartisan organization, in partnership with the National Park Foundation. Freedom 250 started a YouTube channel to post Trump’s announcement as its first video on Thursday.

Already, the UFC fight on the White House lawn has been mocked as a “Hunger Games” by UFC flyweight contender Brandon Royval. This latest event is reminiscent of the book series written by Suzanne Collins, which features a plotline where one male and one female contender from each district of a post-apocalyptic North America fight to the death.

The White House UFC event card is still being determined, with UFC President Dana White signaling that talks with possible fighters won’t begin until February 2026. White has since revealed that UFC legend Conor McGregor, who recently ended his Irish presidential bid, is “very fired up to fight on that card.”

It remains to be seen how the players of the Patriot Games will be chosen.
