Trump and Tucker interview scheduled to rival Fox News’ GOP debate.
Former President Donald Trump Chooses One-on-One Interview with Tucker Carlson Over GOP Debate
In a bold move, former President Donald Trump decided to forgo the GOP presidential primary debate and instead engage in a captivating one-on-one interview with ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Released on X, this interview was strategically timed to compete with the debate.
While other candidates who met the Republican National Committee’s criteria opted to attend the debate and face questions from moderators Shannon Bream and Bret Baier, Trump had a different plan. Citing a poll that showed him with a comfortable lead, he confidently declared, “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES.”
Interestingly, the same poll revealed that a majority of Republicans actually wanted to see the former president on the debate stage. However, Trump chose to sit down with Carlson instead, delving into a wide range of topics. From his reasons for skipping the debate to his critique of corporate media, no stone was left unturned.
Carlson’s 46-minute broadcast even preempted the start of the debate by five minutes. After a few playful jabs at the other Republican candidates, the conversation delved into Trump’s claims of election rigging in 2020, speculations about President Joe Biden’s physical and mental health, and the challenges the next president would likely face.
As the interview progressed, the two found common ground in their shared disdain for former “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace. However, they briefly clashed over their opinions on the fate of the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. While Carlson firmly believed Epstein had been murdered, Trump leaned towards the belief that Epstein had taken his own life out of fear of a lifetime behind bars.
The interview ultimately circled back to one of Trump’s key concerns from his 2016 presidential campaign: the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. This was followed by a brief discussion on the division that emerged after the events of January 6th.
