Trump and Tucker Carlson’s interview goes viral, discussing debate absence and indictments.
Former President Donald Trump Skips Republican Debate for Exclusive Interview with Tucker Carlson
Former President Donald Trump made headlines when he decided to skip the Republican debate on Wednesday night and instead sat down with Tucker Carlson for an extensive interview. The interview quickly gained massive attention, amassing over 100 million views on X in just a matter of hours.
During the interview, Trump addressed a wide range of topics, from his absence at the debate to his thoughts on the possibility of a civil war in the United States. He even fielded a question from Carlson about his concerns regarding an assassination attempt. The interview, which was posted to X just five minutes before the start of the Republican debate, garnered over 100 million views by the end of the night, as reported by Newsweek. By Thursday morning, the interview had reached an astonishing 180 million views.
While it’s difficult to determine the exact number of active viewers due to the social media platform’s view counting method, Trump’s interview with Carlson can be compared to the host’s recent interview with GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, which has garnered 44 million views since its posting last week.
Trump explained his decision to skip the debate by pointing to his significant lead in the polls. He believed that participating in a one-on-one conversation with Carlson would be more beneficial than joining the other Republican candidates.

“I’m leading by [40] points,” Trump said. “But I’m gonna have all these people screaming at me, shouting questions at me. All of which I love answering. I love doing, but it doesn’t make sense to do ’em. So, I’ve taken a pass.”
When asked about the possibility of the U.S. heading towards violence or a civil war, Trump expressed uncertainty.
“I can say this, there’s a level of passion that I’ve never seen,” Trump said. “There’s a level of hatred that I’ve never seen, and there’s probably a bad combination.”
Trump also addressed his pending legal cases, dismissing them as nonsense. He compared his situation to that of Hillary Clinton and Stacey Abrams, who both challenged the outcomes of elections they lost.
“But now, you know, every time you see [Clinton] on television, she’s saying like, well, she’s challenging the election. … So that would mean that she should be indicted, but that would mean also that Stacey Abrams in Georgia should be indicted ’cause she still thinks she won the election for governor,” Trump said.
Carlson didn’t shy away from asking the tough questions and even inquired about Trump’s concerns regarding potential assassination attempts from his political enemies.
“Honestly, they’re savage animals. They are people that are sick, really sick,” Trump replied.
Trump also expressed doubts about President Biden’s intentions to run for re-election and criticized his handling of the country, suggesting that Biden’s family’s business dealings have compromised him.
While Trump highlighted his accomplishments in foreign policy, such as avoiding a nuclear war with North Korea, he criticized Biden for his handling of the Ukraine-Russia War and accused him of allowing China to gain influence in Cuba. However, Trump emphasized that his primary concern remains immigration.
“Number one is a border and taking hundreds of thousands of criminals that have been allowed into our country and getting them out and bringing them back to their country,” the former president said.
