Trump to Testify in New York Probe Into His Business Practices

Former President Donald Trump will sit for questioning on Aug. 10 in the New York investigation into his business, the Republican said.

Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he would be seeing New York Attorney General Letitia James, describing the probe James is leading as a “witch hunt.”

“My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides,” Trump said.

Photographs showed Secret Service agents in the parking garage for James’s office on Wednesday morning.

James’s office declined to comment.

James, a Democrat, began investigating the Trump Organization shortly after she entered office in 2019.

As Trump highlighted in videos he shared on Wednesday, James vowed while campaigning to take action against Trump if she won the election.

When one prospective voter asked James to share why people should head to the polls, she said, “Donald Trump.”

“That should motivate you,” James said, promising to sue Trump if she were elected.

James has said that the investigation into Trump’s business uncovered evidence of fraud, and asked a court in the state to compel the testimony of Trump and two of his children. New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump, Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump to testify. An appeal was rejected by the state’s top appeals court in June.

Testimony

The subpoena for Trump, initially issued in December 2021, commanded the former president to appear and testify “as to what you know regarding the subject of an inquiry by LETITIA JAMES, Attorney General of the State of New York, pursuant to New York State Executive Law Section 63(12), to determine whether an action or proceeding should be instituted with respect to repeated violations of the Executive Law.”

The law in question deals with fraudulent or illegal acts.
