Trump to Megyn Kelly: ‘I’m unaware of who gave Fauci a Presidential Commendation.’
Former President Donald Trump Questions Fauci’s Presidential Commendation
In a recent interview with Megyn Kelly, former President Donald Trump expressed his uncertainty about who gave Dr. Anthony Fauci a Presidential Commendation at the end of his term in office.
Kelly pressed Trump on his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, specifically questioning why he didn’t fire Fauci despite their differences. Trump explained that while he acknowledged Fauci’s long tenure, he didn’t rely heavily on his advice.
However, Kelly pointed out that Trump had made Fauci a prominent figure in the White House Coronavirus Task Force, which drew criticism from both Republicans and Democrats. She also mentioned that Trump had awarded Fauci a Presidential Commendation before leaving office.
Curious about the commendation, Trump admitted, “I don’t know who gave him the commendation. I really don’t know who gave him the commendation. I wouldn’t have done it.”
Kelly informed Trump that the commendation was not exclusive to Fauci, as General Mark Milley also received one. Trump speculated that someone must have handed Fauci the commendation.
The official White House archive from the Trump administration confirms that on January 19, 2021, Trump awarded Presidential Commendations to various individuals involved in Operation Warp Speed, including Fauci and Milley.
