Trump threatens to provide Tomahawks to Ukraine if Putin continues attacks

President Donald Trump suggested on Sunday that he may give Russian President Vladimir Putin an ultimatum of either facing Tomahawk missiles from Ukraine or stop the fighting in the over three-year war.

Trump made the comment aboard Air Force One while on his way to Israel, a trip that comes after securing a long-sought peace deal in the Gaza war.

“I might have to speak to Russia, to be honest with you, about Tomahawks. Do they want to have Tomahawks going in their direction? I don’t think so,” the U.S. president said. “I might say [to Putin], ‘Look, if this war is not gonna get settled I may send them Tomahawks.’”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been urging Trump to supply his country with the American-made long-range missiles in order to get peace negotiations back on track.

While Trump has been focused on the Middle East over the past week as a ceasefire deal was struck between Israel and Hamas, he has still held calls with Zelensky, including on Sunday.

Zelensky called that discussion “very productive,” as the two leaders discussed “strengthening” Ukraine’s “long-range capabilities.”

ZELENSKY URGES ‘NO WEAKENING OF PRESSURE’ AS RUSSIA STRIKES UKRAINIAN ENERGY PLANTS

As Trump gives his latest indication he is willing to provide Ukraine with the missiles, Russia has warned against the prospect, with the Kremlin saying “the topic of Tomahawks is of extreme concern.”

In recent weeks, Russia has been battering Ukraine’s energy sector, launching large-scale aerial attacks on energy plants. Zelensky said in a video address on Sunday that these strikes are evidence Russia is losing on the battlefield, pointing to advancements by his troops in Orikhiv, located in southern Ukraine.
