president Donald Trump announced the nomination of Tammy Bruce, the State Department spokeswoman, for the position of Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador. Trump praised Bruce’s exemplary work as the chief spokeswoman and described her as a great patriot and bestselling author. This nomination is among the final appointments Trump is seeking to fill, following delays caused by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blocking several civilian nominees. Mike Waltz has been nominated for the U.S. Ambassador to the UN role and, if confirmed along with Bruce, she would serve directly under him and assume his responsibilities when he is absent. Bruce expressed gratitude for the nomination and committed to promoting “America First leadership and values” if confirmed. It remains unclear who will replace her at the State Department.
Trump selects Tammy Bruce for deputy UN position
President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has nominated State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce to be the next deputy representative to the United Nations.
Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post, in which he praised Bruce’s “fantastic” work as the chief spokeswoman at the State Department.
“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador. Since the beginning of my Second Term, Tammy has been serving with distinction as Spokesperson of the State Department, where she did a fantastic job. Tammy Bruce will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations. Congratulations Tammy!” the president posted.
The role is one of the last Trump is looking to fill after a blockade was launched on his remaining civilian nominees by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) just before the upper chamber’s August recess.
Caught up in that backlog is also the role of U.N. ambassador, which Trump nominated Mike Waltz for after the Signalgate controversy led to him departing his earlier role as national security adviser.
Waltz’s nomination has since advanced to the Senate floor after he overcame opposition from Democrats and one Republican, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).
Bruce would serve directly under Waltz if both were confirmed for the high-level posts, and would also assume his duties in the event of his absence.
MIKE WALTZ UN NOMINATION ADVANCES AFTER BRIEF SENATE DELAY
It is unclear at this time who will take over Bruce’s role at the State Department, though Thomas Piggot currently serves as deputy spokesman.
Bruce thanked the president for the nomination in a post on X, adding that she will continue to advance “America First leadership and values” in the new role if she is confirmed.
