Trump jokes Obama made ‘big mistake’ insisting aliens are real: ‘Classified information’
President Donald Trump waded into the discourse on aliens on Thursday, saying former President Barack Obama made a “big mistake” in divulging “classified information” related to their existence.
Obama said during a recent interview that aliens are real but noted they aren’t being held at the top-secret Area 51 facility, commonly shown in films and television series.
“There’s no underground facility — unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States,” he told progressive podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen.
Trump responded to Obama’s comments while speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One.
“Well, he gave classified information. He’s not supposed to be doing that,” he answered.
“I don’t know if they’re real or not. … He made a big mistake. He took it out of classified information,” the president said, adding he doesn’t “have an opinion on it.”
While his response sounded stern at first, there was a touch of lightheartedness in his words.
After Obama’s answer to the speed-fire question went viral, he clarified via social media that “Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.” The former president reiterated that he saw no evidence of extraterrestrial activity during his tenure in the Oval Office.
Trump joked he may just have to declassify files on aliens and UFOs to get Obama “out of trouble.” He also joked that while he doesn’t know whether aliens exist, he knows “illegal aliens” are real.
Lara Trump, Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, recently revealed that the president may be working on a speech that discloses information about extraterrestrial life. She described her father-in-law as being “coy” when she asked him a question on the topic.
Donald Trump is reportedly planning to make such a speech this summer, according to the Daily Mail. The speech, if it exists, is said to coincide with the 79th anniversary of the famous UFO incident in Roswell, New Mexico, on July 8.
OBAMA JOKES ALIENS ARE ‘REAL,’ BUT ARE NOT HELD AT AREA 51
Asked by a reporter about the supposed speech, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that would be “news to me” and that she would have to “check in” with the president’s speechwriters.
“That would be of great interest to me personally and I’m sure all of you in this room — and apparently former President Obama too,” she said. “So we’ll keep you posted on that.”
