Trump says he won’t sign other bills until Congress passes SAVE America Act

President Donald Trump says he will not sign any othre bills untill Congress passes the SAVE America Act, arguing it “supersedes everything else” and must be prioritized. He announced this on Truth Social, pressuring Congress to pass legislation aimed at election integrity.

Key points:

– The SAVE America Act, led by Rep. Chip Roy and Sen. Mike Lee, would require proof of citizenship and voter ID to register to vote.

Trump has added additional policies to his demands, including restrictions on transgender participation in sports and certain surgeries, tho these are not core provisions of the act itself.

– He has also pushed for a ban on mail-in ballots, but the current bill does not include an outright ban; exceptions would exist for voters with disabilities, service members, and those who are traveling.

– A provision to remove noncitizens from voter rolls is part of the broader voting-security agenda, but Trump has not yet tied it to his demand list.

– White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt endorsed the push. With 53 Republicans in the Senate, some Democratic support would be needed; Sen. John Fetterman has indicated he would back the legislation.

the article describes Trump leveraging his demand for the SAVE America Act to push for stricter election rules, while outlining the political dynamics and potential hurdles.

Trump says he won’t sign other bills until Congress passes SAVE America Act

President Donald Trump on Sunday said he would not sign any other bills until Congress passes the SAVE America Act because it “supersedes everything else.”

The president shared his remarks on Truth Social, adding pressure to Congress to pass the legislation that is intended to secure election integrity

“It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else. MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE. I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed,” Trump said. “AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY – ILLNESS, DISABILITY, TRAVEL: NO MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS: NO TRANSGENDER MUTILIZATION FOR CHILDREN! DO NOT FAIL!!!”

The SAVE America Act, led by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), would require proof of citizenship and voter identification in order to register to vote.

As of now, the legislation does not include provisions to ban male participation in female sports and gender transition surgeries for minors, but Sunday marks the second time the president has added such policies to his demands to pass the SAVE America Act.

Banning mail-in ballots is another additional provision that Trump has pushed for, but the SAVE America Act lacks a provision for banning mail-in voting, as that would likely ostracize some Republicans.

The president’s stance to bar states from allowing mail-in voting does allow exceptions for voters with disabilities, service members, and voters who are traveling.

DHS GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IS ‘AN INSANE SITUATION’: BYRON YORK

Requiring states to remove noncitizens from existing voter rolls is a provision included in the bill, but Trump has yet to include it in his list of demands.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt backed Trump’s push to pass the legislation, telling Fox News that the SAVE America Act should not face opposition.

“There should be no pushback to any of the commonsense proposals in the SAVE America Act,” Leavitt said. “The only people who don’t support that are radical left Democrats on Capitol Hill.”

There are 53 Republicans in the Senate, meaning some Democrats would have to support the measure. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has stepped across the aisle and said he would back the legislation.

TRUMP TARGETS MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS AND TRANS SURGERIES IN NEW SAVE AMERICA ACT CHECKLIST

Leavitt did not go into much detail on how Trump’s demands related to transgender policies relate to the SAVE America Act but called them commonsense policies and “winning issues for the American people.”

Should Trump’s demands for transgender restrictions be added to the act, it is unlikely to gain the Democratic support it needs to pass in the Senate.
