Trump says he ‘always knew’ details of Israel’s attack on Iran

President Donald Trump said he “always knew” when Israel would strike Iran, hours after the U.S. ally launched a decisive strike on the country that eliminated several top military leaders.

Israel launched a strike against Iran on Thursday night, targeting the country’s nuclear sites and military leadership. The move stunned some in the West after U.S. officials indicated that they wanted cooler heads to prevail during their nuclear talks with Iran.

“I always knew the date,” the president told the New York Post. “Because I know everything. I know everything. I know everything.”

“I gave them 60 days and they didn’t meet it,” Trump continued. “Today’s 61, you know. Today [is] day 61.”

Trump posted to social media on Thursday afternoon that the administration remains “committed to a Diplomatic Resolution to the Iran Nuclear Issue!”

Iranian state media reported that Iran was withdrawing indefinitely from nuclear talks with the United States after the strikes. After the strikes, the U.S. was still expecting to send special envoy Steve Witkoff to Oman for further talks.

When asked whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showed him intelligence concerning Iran’s nuclear program and if the 60-day window was mutually agreed, Trump responded, “I know what’s going on. Someone informed me of it.”

In a social media post Friday, Trump left the door open for a deal. “Two months ago I gave Iran a 60 day ultimatum to ‘make a deal.’ They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance!”

Trump said earlier Friday that he warned Iran that another strike could happen if a deal did not get done. “Certain Iranian hardliner’s spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen,” Trump wrote. “They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse! There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end.”

“Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire,” he added.

Iran has launched more than 100 drones, which Israeli officials said they have intercepted many of. Further attacks are expected.
