Trump says Blumenthal should ‘no longer’ be allowed to speak
The article covers a heated exchange during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing involving Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Attorney General Pam bondi. During the hearing, Blumenthal accused Bondi of improper conduct related to a merger involving american Express GBT and alleged that she followed former President Donald Trump’s instructions to bring charges against former FBI Director James Comey.
In response, Bondi confronted Blumenthal over his past false claims about serving in the Vietnam War, calling him a liar and defending her own integrity as a career prosecutor. Blumenthal admitted to having “misspoke” about his military service.
Former President Trump criticized Blumenthal on his social media platform Truth Social, calling him a fraud and saying he should no longer be allowed to speak in the senate. Trump compared Blumenthal’s falsehoods about his military service to those of former Congressman George Santos, who is imprisoned for lying during his campaign.
The confrontation underscored ongoing tensions and accusations of dishonesty among political figures and raised questions about investigations and political influence within the Justice Department.
Trump says Blumenthal should ‘no longer’ be allowed to speak after heated Bondi hearing
President Donald Trump slammed Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) in a Truth Social post Tuesday, saying he should “no longer” be allowed to speak after questioning Attorney General Pam Bondi earlier in the day.
Blumenthal accused Bondi of impropriety in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing and of explicitly listening to Trump’s instructions to levy charges against former FBI Director James Comey.
“This guy shouldn’t even be in the U.S. Senate,” Trump said of Blumenthal.
“It should be investigated, and Justice should be sought. Right now there is a Congressman sitting in prison for lying about his past during a campaign. Well, those lies were nothing compared to those of Richard ‘Da Nang Dick’ Blumenthal, perhaps the greatest phony in the history of the United States Senate. He should be allowed to speak no longer!” he concluded.
Trump referenced former New York GOP Rep. George Santos in the post, who is serving a prison sentence after being removed from Congress. The president said Blumenthal’s falsehoods about serving in Vietnam are worse.
Blumenthal claimed that he served in Vietnam before he was elected to the Senate, but he received several deferments to avoid going to war. Trump also called Blumenthal “a FRAUD” in the post.
The Connecticut senator asked Bondi for more information about her alleged impropriety in a merger.
“In the merger that took place involving American Express GBT [Global Business Travel], I understand that Brian Ballard, longtime backer and head of the law firm where you worked, was instrumental in lobbying the Justice Department to drop that lawsuit. … What conversations did you have with Mr. Ballard?” Blumenthal asked.
Bondi then brought up Blumenthal’s lies concerning his military service.
“Sen. Blumenthal, I cannot believe that you would accuse me of impropriety when you lied about your military service. You lied, you admitted you lied to be elected a U.S. senator,” she said.
“How dare you? I’m a career prosecutor. Don’t you ever challenge my integrity,” she said. “Do not question my ability to be fair and impartial as attorney general, and anything [about] my former firm Ballard Partners.”
Blumenthal has said he “misspoke” about serving in Vietnam.
He also grilled her about Trump’s Truth Social post instructing her to investigate Comey.

“He has been transparent,” Blumenthal said. “In fact, five days before the indictment of Comey, he put this post up as instructions to you. He didn’t mince words. He was very open and public that you should indict James Comey and others because they are ‘guilty as hell. No more delay, now.’ Five days before you indicted.”
He then asked what conversations she’s had with Trump, but she refused to discuss them.
