Trump sanctions Venezuelan model over alleged support for Tren de Aragua

President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Venezuelan model and influencer Jimena Romina Araya Navarro, known as Rosita, due too her alleged support for the Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang, a designated foreign terrorist institution involved in serious crimes like drug trafficking, human trafficking, extortion, and murder-for-hire. Navarro, with over 3.5 million Instagram followers, is reportedly romantically linked to TdA leader Niño Guerrero and has been accused of aiding his prison escape in 2012 and laundering money for the gang through her international DJ performances.

The sanctions also target an entertainment network connected to TdA,including Navarro’s associates and several businesses she owns or controls. Navarro currently resides in Mexico but frequently performs in countries such as Spain, Colombia, Venezuela, and Guyana. The U.S. Treasury Department emphasized efforts to disrupt TdA’s narcotrafficking and human smuggling operations to protect national security.

Navarro’s controversial history includes the mysterious murders of two men she had dated previously. reactions on social media following the sanctions have been mixed, with many mocking her on Instagram. This action follows a pattern of sanctioning entertainment figures involved with criminal networks, like former Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding, also recently sanctioned for his role as a drug lord operating across the Americas.

Trump sanctions Venezuelan model over alleged support for Tren de Aragua

President Donald Trump leveled sanctions against a major Venezuelan model and influencer over her alleged support for the Tren de Aragua gang.

Jimena Romina Araya Navarro, also known as Rosita, is a famous Venezuelan model, influencer, and DJ who performs at clubs internationally. She’s known for her sizable social media presence, boasting over 3.5 million followers on Instagram, where she posts videos showcasing her glamorous lifestyle. She’s also “romantically linked” to the leader of TdA, Niño Guerrero, and one of the most notable members of the entertainment industry to provide critical support for the deadly TdA.

The designated foreign terrorist organization is known for crimes, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, extortion, sexual exploitation of women and children, money laundering, and murder-for-hire, according to the Treasury Department.

Navarro’s relationship with Guerrero allegedly dates back over a decade, with the Treasury Department’s release claiming that she helped break him out of Tocorón prison in Venezuela in 2012. She has since allegedly worked to launder money from TdA, primarily through her performances as a nightclub DJ.

Navarro resides in Mexico but has performed in Colombia, Guyana, Venezuela, and Spain. A post on her Instagram account advertised her appearance at nightclubs across Spain in June.

The Treasury Department stated that a portion of the revenue generated during these performances is remitted to TdA leadership.

“Under President Trump, barbaric terrorist cartels can no longer operate with impunity across our borders. The Tren de Aragua network’s narcotrafficking and human smuggling operations have long posed a grave threat to our nation,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement. “At the direction of President Trump, we will continue to use every tool to cut off these terrorists from the U.S. and global financial system and keep American citizens safe.”

The new sanctions are targeted at an entertainment network linked to TdA. Other figures sanctioned included her former bodyguard and nightclub manager, Eryk Manuel Landaeta Hernandez, former Guerrero lieutenant Kenffersso Jhosue Sevilla Arteaga, and others. Several businesses owned fully or in part by Navarro and the others were also hit with sanctions.

The Mexican government also sanctioned the actress and influencer.

Navarro is also known for her relationship history. Two men she’s dated previously were murdered, one of whom was dismembered and left on the side of a Caracas road in 2016.

The alleged TdA accomplice was quickly targeted on her glitzy Instagram account, with users flooding her comments with gifs of President Donald Trump and other mockery.

“Ahaaaa your time has come Trump Trump,” one user wrote in Spanish.

“Unfortunately you won’t be able to take the baby to jail Jimena. The USA is not like Venezuela,” another wrote on a post of her with her child.

Navarro isn’t the first celebrity to be sanctioned by the Trump administration for their role in a drug cartel. Last month, the United States sanctioned former Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding, who has since become one of the most powerful drug lords in Mexico.

Wedding has pursued violent means across the Western Hemisphere to crush his rivals and protect his billion-dollar enterprise, personally ordering dozens of hits across the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. In one Ontario hit, Wedding’s gunmen misidentified their target, instead murdering an innocent couple.

The Treasury noted that Wedding “employs highly sophisticated methods in both the planning and execution of these killings, demonstrating a level of coordination and ruthlessness that has made him one of the world’s most dangerous fugitives.”
