Trump rips Doocy for ‘stupid question’ on Iran at NCAA roundtable
President Donald Trump, during a White House roundtable on college sports, grew frustrated with a reporter from Fox News who pressed him on Russia sharing intelligence with iran about U.S. forces in the Middle East, calling the question “stupid” and asking to stay on topic. Despite the reporter’s longstanding cordial relationship with him, Trump redirected to the event’s focus on college sports and NIL while criticizing the media. The roundtable attendees discussed compensation for college athletes, name, image, and likeness (NIL), and federal legislation to “save” college sports; Trump argued the Supreme Court’s 2021 ruling restricting noncash compensation and a $2.8 billion settlement allowing direct payments could bankrupt some schools. He vowed to issue an executive order within a week to help resolve the payment issue and reiterated his push to reform how athletes are compensated. The article also notes Trump’s remark about replacing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem with Sen. Trump says Russia-Iran coordination ‘easy problem,’ rips Doocy for ‘stupid question’
President Donald Trump became visibly frustrated during a White House roundtable on college sports on Friday when reporters kept asking questions unrelated to the topic.
Peter Doocy, a senior White House correspondent at Fox News, probed the president on reports of Russia sharing intelligence with Iran regarding the position of U.S. forces in the Middle East.
Despite his friendly relationship with Doocy, Trump was unhappy with the question at the sports event.
“That’s an easy problem compared to what we’re doing here,” he answered before criticizing Doocy. “Can I be honest? I have a lot of respect for you. You’ve always been very nice to me. What a stupid question that is to be asking at this time. We’re talking about something else.”
Trump made a similar statement when another reporter asked how he came to replace Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem with Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) the day before.
After taking a moment to sigh into the microphone, Trump replied, “Is it possible to stay on this subject just for once? You know, just for once? Boy, oh boy. Anybody have any questions on this subject?”
The White House held a roundtable on the future of college sports, covering name, image, and likeness issues and federal legislation that Trump says would save collegiate sports. Many NCAA representatives and sports figures were invited.
While discussing the current compensation system in college sports, the president went on a tirade against the Supreme Court for unanimously ruling against the NCAA’s restrictions on noncash compensation for college athletes in 2021. And last year, a judge approved a $2.8 billion legal settlement that permitted colleges and universities to start paying their athletes directly.
Trump said he was concerned that some schools would go bankrupt due to the court decisions.
“I think the Supreme Court ought to be ashamed of itself for a lot of reasons, OK, a lot of reasons,” he ranted.

“They have hurt this country so badly because they haven’t had the guts to do what’s right. And I can tell you about other things too, not just this,” he said, referencing his harsh words for the high court’s 6-3 ruling against his tariff agenda last month.
To help sort out the payment matter, Trump vowed to issue an executive order within the next week.
