Former President Donald Trump has made his return to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after two years.
On Thursday, the 45th president took on X to share his Fulton County mugshot from the Georgia case. Trump had been suspended from the app since the January 6th event and it was lifted on November 2022.
“ELECTION INTERFERENCE / NEVER SURRENDER!” said the text on the post.
Beverly Hallberg, president of District Media Group and a media coach, told the press that it is “the best thing” that could have happened to X since Elon Musk took over.
“The best thing that could happen to X is for Donald Trump to return, and I’m sure Elon Musk has been angling for it,” Hallberg said. “Not only would he increase engagement due to the likely volume of tweets, but it would also bring back liberals who left due to Musk taking over. Trump boosts TV ratings and Trump increases social media analytics.”
Musk reactivated Trump’s banned account in November after he became CEO of the social platform, and now reposted Trump’s post saying it’s “Next-level.”
The former president was banned from X immediately after the January 6th, 2021 event, amid allegations that he would use his account to encourage violence.
Trump previously stated that he would not return to the site, and it is unclear whether he will continue to post on it given that he created his own social media platform, Truth Social, after his suspension from X.
Nonetheless, Trump posted on Truth Social after posting on X and said, “I LOVE TRUTH SOCIAL. IT IS MY HOME!!!”
As of Friday morning, the X post had been reposted more than 300,000 times.
Social media users started posting memes of his mugshot as soon as it was released.
Trump has reportedly already started using the mugshot as a fundraiser, selling shirts and other items due to the popularity of the photograph.
