Former President Donald Trump Disagrees with Moving FBI Headquarters to Alabama
During an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” former President Donald Trump expressed his disagreement with the idea of relocating the new FBI headquarters to Alabama. Instead, he advocated for the new building to be situated right next to the Department of Justice.
When asked about how the FBI should be reformed, Bartiromo mentioned the Republican proposal to move the headquarters out of Washington and establish it in Alabama. Trump responded, “I had a plan to take down the FBI building and build a brand new one in Washington because I believe the FBI should be close to the DOJ if they’re all honest people.”
Trump further explained his stance, criticizing the idea of moving the headquarters to a different state like Virginia. He highlighted the potential environmental and traffic issues that would arise from such a move. In contrast, he favored renovating the existing location or constructing a new building near the Department of Justice, emphasizing the benefits of proximity and collaboration between the two entities.
Bartiromo pointed out that the FBI’s proposed new facility could cost nearly $4 billion and potentially be larger than the Pentagon. Trump expressed his preference for a building close to the DOJ, citing the available land and resources. He acknowledged that there might be some disruption during construction but believed it would be a more cost-effective solution. Additionally, he mentioned that FBI personnel also supported the idea of proximity to the Department of Justice.
While Trump expressed his love for Alabama, he maintained that the FBI building should be located next to the DOJ. He emphasized the importance of the FBI and the Department of Justice working together, suggesting that being able to walk across the street would facilitate their collaboration. Currently, with the proposed move to Virginia, individuals would have to endure long commutes in heavy traffic.
