President Donald Trump claimed he would revitalize Washington by using his real estate expertise to spruce up parks in the city and give the District “all brand-new beautiful grass” during an early-evening visit to the U.S. Park Police Anacostia Operations Facility on Thursday.
“You people are winners. And I just think it’s really, it’s such an honor to be with you. And we’re going to make Washington, D.C. great again,” Trump told a crowd of National Guard members, Metropolitan police, and U.S. marshals.
The president also claimed he would beautify the city’s parks, citing his multiple golf clubs, such as the Trump National Golf Club.
“One of the things we’re going to be redoing is your parks. I’m very good at grass, because I have a lot of golf courses all over the place,” Trump said. “I know more about grass than any human being, I think, anywhere in the world. And we’re going to be regrassing all of your parks, all brand new sprinkler systems, the best that you can buy.”
Trump pledged that he would get Washington “picked up physically,” including laying new grass in the city’s parks, if the law enforcement officers “do the job on safety.”
“You know, like everything else, grass has a life,” Trump said. “You know that? Grass has a life. We have a life, and grass has a life. The grass here died about 40 years ago. So, we’re gonna be rebuilding all of your parks, and it is gonna happen fast. It’s going to go up like a miracle.”

Trump’s visit also comes 10 days after he federalized the Metropolitan police force and sent in National Guardsmen and women to patrol the city in a bid to crack down on crime and homelessness.
Washington is “at a level that you haven’t seen in a long time, and it’s all because of you. So, I want to thank you all very much,” Trump told the law enforcement crowd.
Trump’s visit included hamburgers cooked by the White House and pizzas from Wise Guy Pizza for the police presence.
Several members of his administration joined the president on Thursday, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro, chief of staff Susie Wiles, and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.
Just one day before Miller, along with Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, blasted protesters of the National Guard at Union Station as “stupid white hippies.”
