This decision comes after Trump withdrew his previous nominee, Ed Martin, due to a lack of support in the Senate. Trump praised Pirro for her distinguished legal career, noting her roles as Assistant District Attorney, County Judge, and District Attorney in Westchester County, New York, where she made history as the first woman to hold these positions. He characterized her as a fierce advocate for crime victims and highly qualified for the attorney position. Though, given her controversial reputation, it is indeed anticipated that Pirro may face notable opposition similar to what Martin encountered.

President Donald Trump has appointed Fox News’s Jeanine Pirro as the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C.
Earlier on Thursday, Trump conceded to reporters that his previous nomination for the post, Ed Martin, “wasn’t getting the support from people that I thought” after opposition in the Senate. He’s now appointing Pirro as his replacement.
“I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,” Trump announced in a Truth Social post. “Jeanine was Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, New York, and then went on to serve as County Judge, and District Attorney, where she was the first woman ever to be elected to those positions.”
Trump described Pirro as a “powerful crusader for victims of crime” while in office and someone who “excelled in all ways.”

Pirro, a longtime and vocal Trump ally with a penchant for controversy, is likely to meet nearly as much opposition as Martin.
