ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA — President Donald Trump joked Sunday that he loved Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle “great jeans” ad after he learned she is a registered Republican.
Sweeney’s jeans ad previously stirred up speculation that it was a nod to eugenics, a theory that humanity could be improved through selective breeding.
“She’s a registered Republican?” Trump asked reporters after being informed of her party registration.
“Oh, now I love her ad. You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans,” the president added, before remarking again that he thought her ad was “fantastic.”
Florida records reviewed by the Washington Examiner show Sweeney is a registered Republican in the state’s Monroe County, which contains the Florida Keys in southern Florida. She registered on June 14, 2024, before the state’s primaries and the presidential election but after the presidential primaries.
Her jeans ads prompted the most controversy after a teaser video compared Sweeney’s genes and jeans.
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue,” she said.
The company denied the ad was anything but about jeans, saying, it “is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
Before the ads, the company’s marketing officer said they included “clever, even provocative language” and was “definitely going to push buttons.”
At the same press conference, the Washington Examiner asked Trump about his relationship with conservative influencer Laura Loomer and her influence in the White House.
“She’s very nice and I know she’s known as a radical right, but I think Laura Loomer is a very nice person,” he said. “I’ve known her for a long time. And, you know, personally, I think she’s a patriot, and she gets excited because of the fact that she’s a patriot, and she doesn’t like things going on that she thinks are bad for the country. I like her,” Trump added.

Loomer’s influence has resulted in several officials across the Trump administration earning terminations because of her rhetoric against them on social media.
In a post on X, Loomer shared Trump’s comments and thanked the president. “Thank you, President Trump. I like you too!” she said.
