Trump: Jan 6 Witness Cassidy Hutchinson Is “Living in Fantasyland”

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump went on Newsmax to claim January 6 witness Cassidy Hutchinson “has got something wrong with her.” Trump went on to say that the former junior staffer for Mark Meadows is “a social climber” who’s “living in fantasyland.”

Hutchinson testified to the January 6 Committee and boldly claimed that Trump tried to commandeer a vehicle from Secret Service by “reach[ing] up toward the front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel” in an attempt to go to the Capitol.

“I think the woman, she’s got serious problems,” Trump said in response to Hutchinson’s testimony, “She’s making up stories like one after another.” Trump directly addressed her accusations that he tried to take control of the SUV saying, “The craziest of all was that I tried to commandeer – they use that word – I tried to commandeer a car with Secret Service agents, telling them to take us down to the Capitol.”

Rebuttals of Hutchinson’s account came almost immediately after her testimony. Peter Alexander, Chief White House correspondent for NBC News tweeted, “A source close to the Secret Service tells me both Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver are prepared to testify under oath that neither man was assaulted and that Mr. Trump never lunged for the steering wheel.”

Trump insinuated that the media wasn’t being honest in their reporting saying, “They hardly even talk about the fact that she’s been totally discredited.” Trump was hopeful about additional testimony from Secret Service saying, “I hope they can testify.”

Additional doubt was cast by Trump on the motives behind Hutchinson’s testimony with Trump claiming “She [Hutchinson] wanted to work for me after January 6, she was a big Trump fan. She wanted to work for me in Florida.”

Reports from 2021 confirm Hutchinson was considered for a position with him in Florida post-January 6. Trump allegedly passed on continuing to work with her and claimed, “They said bad things about her,” and added, “She’s a total disaster. She’s a train wreck.”

The January 6 Committee is expected to continue their hearings over the course of the next few weeks.

“It’s a horrible thing that they can do to the country where they take this kind of time,” Trump said, “They don’t talk about making America great anymore. All they do is investigate everybody and it’s a terrible, terrible thing.”

In April, The Washington Post reported that the January 6 Committee was on track to spend $9.5 million by December for the hearings and investigation.
