Trump heads into July 4 holiday with several wins – Washington Examiner
The article discusses President Donald Trump’s recent accomplishments leading up to the Fourth of July holiday in 2025. Key highlights include the passage of a major domestic policy bill, described by Trump as his “big, beautiful bill,” which aims to boost the economy and is set to be signed into law on July 4. The legislation passed narrowly in Congress following intense negotiations and pressure from the Trump management. White House officials hailed the bill as a catalyst for economic growth, promising to reduce deficits and enhance revenue for American citizens.
Additionally, the economy has shown positive trends, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting the creation of 147,000 jobs in June. Gas prices are at their lowest level since 2021, contributing to an optimistic outlook for consumers. Trump also achieved several significant wins on the international stage, including agreements regarding NATO defense spending and trade deals with Vietnam.
The article emphasizes the administration’s focus on immigration and national security, noting a decrease in illegal immigration at the U.S. southern border compared to previous years. Trump is portrayed as achieving notable victories both domestically and internationally, reinforcing his leadership and influence within the Republican Party.
Everything comes up Trump: President scores multiple victories ahead of Fourth of July holiday
President Donald Trump will celebrate the Fourth of July on Friday with a bevy of victories. Chief among them is the passage of a significant domestic policy bill ready for the president’s signature.
Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” met the July 4 deadline lawmakers set after the House passed the legislation Thursday afternoon in a 218-214 vote at 2:32 p.m., after multiple grueling marathon votes and negotiations.
The president will sign the bill into law during a 5 p.m. ET ceremony on Friday. When asked on Thursday afternoon how he, along with the House and Senate Republican leadership, was able to get it over the finish line, Trump told reporters: “I think I have more power now… more gravitas.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “This bill is going to create an economic boom for the United States of America.
“We’re going to continue to bring in revenue, drive down our deficit, and we’ll have more money back into the pockets of the American people.”
A senior administration official described the legislation as “the bridge to the Golden Age of America” in a call with reporters.
The Senate narrowly passed the bill on Tuesday, 51-50, after Vice President JD Vance cast a tiebreaking vote. Centrist and conservative lawmakers had sometimes balked at the legislation’s impact on Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and the federal deficit.
Ultimately, most GOP lawmakers fell in line after a heavy pressure campaign from the Trump administration.
“President Trump is racking up win after win, making this the best two weeks for everyday Americans in decades,” said Taylor Rogers, a White House spokeswoman, in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “On the world stage and on the home front, President Trump has delivered on his promises like no other President before. It’s clear that President Trump was right about everything, Americans still aren’t tired of winning, and our country has never been HOTTER!”
The president also scored a string of other victories. The economy added 147,000 jobs in June, again beating expectations, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
“For the FOURTH month in a row, job numbers have beat market expectations with nearly 150,000 good jobs created in June,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt bragged in a statement. “American-born workers have accounted for ALL of the job gains since President Trump took office, and wages continue to rise. The economy is booming again, and it will only get better when the One, Big, Beautiful Bill is passed and implemented.”
Ahead of the Independence Day holiday, gas prices are at their lowest numbers since 2021, with the nationwide average for a gallon of gas at $3.14.
Before that, Trump scored another major win when the Supreme Court ruled last month that district courts cannot issue nationwide injunctions, a tactic that had previously limited the president’s legislative agenda, including ending birthright citizenship.
Ford O’Connell, a GOP strategist, told the Washington Examiner that Trump’s second 100 days were better than his first 100 days.
O’Connell criticized the high court’s injunction ruling as “not just a victory for Trump.”
“It was a victory for the office of the presidency, even more than Trump,” he continued.
This week, Trump also announced a trade deal with Vietnam ahead of the July 9 expiration of the pause on his “Liberation tariffs.” According to the details Trump outlined on Wednesday, Vietnam will pay the United States a 20% tariff on any goods imported and a 40% tariff on transshipping while giving the U.S. “total access” to its markets.
“It will be a Great Deal of Cooperation between our two Countries,” Trump said on Truth Social.
The Trump administration has repeatedly highlighted its crackdown on illegal immigration at the U.S. southern border.
In May, zero illegal immigrants were released into the nation, a stark contrast with the 62,000 people released into the U.S. in May 2024, when former President Joe Biden was in charge. The statistic reminded us that Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the border has helped curtail illegal immigration, a campaign promise he has fulfilled.
On the foreign policy front, Trump notched a victory overseas after European counterparts in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization agreed to spend at least 5% of their GDP on defense by 2035, an increase from their 2% defense spending. Trump, who has long called for allies to increase their defense spending, called it “a monumental win for the United States.”
Trump stunned the nation last month when he authorized U.S. strikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities. Before heading out to the NATO Summit, Trump brokered a ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran, ending their 12-day war. On top of that, he also brokered a historic peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo last week, ending their decadeslong battle.
O’Connell, the GOP strategist, stressed that Trump’s wins, including on the reconciliation bill, are a testament to leadership abilities.
“We haven’t seen that sort of hold on the Republican Party since Reagan,” he said, referencing former President Ronald Reagan. “It’s that impressive.”
