President Donald Trump received an ovation from New York Yankees fans as he attended a game on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Trump saluted as the crowd cheered him.

The Yankees played an integral part in the remembrance of 9/11. During the first game of the 2001 World Series, which was played at Yankee Stadium, former President George W. Bush delivered a renowned first pitch that riled up the stadium and created an iconic moment.

Trump stopped by to watch the Yankees game with the Detroit Tigers and greeted players such as Aaron Judge, who told Trump that it was nice to meet him. The president complimented him in kind.

“You have that much muscle, you have to hit the ball perfect,” Trump said to Judge. You’re a fantastic player. … You’re an unbelievable player.”

The Yankees said Trump was in attendance to honor first responders and others killed on 9/11.

“Tonight, we remember those we lost, the heroism of all who bravely sacrificed their own lives to save others, and those who died from illnesses obtained at Ground Zero,” the New York Yankees wrote on X.

“Their spirit lives on today with our First Responders and all who serve our communities and our country. The 45th and 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump was in attendance to honor the victims and first responders on the anniversary of September 11th, 2001,” the post added.

After Trump met with Judge, the slugger smashed two homers, a solo shot 413 feet to left field, and slapped another one later in the game for his 46th of the season.

The Yankees led 9-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, looking to capture a win over the Tigers with Trump watching.

Trump optimistically addressed the team, predicting the Yankees would “make the [playoffs]” and “go all the way.” 

“I think we’ll start from tonight on, and you’re going to do well,” he said.
