Trump enters Zelensky summit with approval ‘surging upward’

The article reports that voter approval for former President Donald Trump increased substantially following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. According to a three-day survey by InsiderAdvantage, 54% of voters approved of Trump after the meeting, a significant rise compared to before the summit. Pollster Matt Towery noted that this upward trend spans most voting groups except for the oldest voters, with improvements seen among African-American, Hispanic-Latino, and white voters alike.

Despite criticism from liberal media regarding the summitS failure to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine, Trump’s approval ratings surged. White House officials frame the Alaska meeting as a positive diplomatic opening after relations between the U.S. and Russia worsened under President Joe Biden.

During the joint press conference, Putin agreed with Trump’s claim that the 2022 russian escalation in Ukraine might not have happened if Trump had remained president. Trump aimed to leverage this momentum going into peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr zelensky and other world leaders, hoping to secure a commitment for negotiations to end the conflict.

Trump enters Zelensky summit with approval ‘surging upward’

Voter approval of President Donald Trump surged “upward” following his Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, likely giving him an advantage entering his peace meetings Monday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other world leaders.

InsiderAdvantage found in its three-day survey that 54% of voters approve of Trump while 44% don’t, a big swing up from where he was entering the Putin meeting.

Pollster Matt Towery said, “Overall, his approval numbers are surging upwards post-summit.”

Towery noted that Trump’s approval among likely voters is on the march upward with most voting groups, a finding that flies in the face of critical liberal media that shifted into overtime all weekend to rip the Putin summit as a failure for not securing a ceasefire in Ukraine.

“Donald Trump now has an advantage among every age group other than the most senior of voters. He has improved his numbers among African-Americans and Hispanic-Latinos. White voters are at a near record 64%. Voters under 65 years of age now approve of his job performance by wide margins. Only the nation’s oldest voters disapprove of his job performance, which is consistent with our prior surveys,” Towery said.

White House officials have argued that the Friday summit with Putin was a welcome door opening after former President Joe Biden pushed U.S.-Russia relations to a new low and did not work to prevent the war.

In their joint press conference after the three-hour meeting in Alaska, Putin agreed with Trump’s oft-stated brag that had he been president, the 2022 escalation by Russian forces into Ukraine would not have occurred.

On Monday, Trump hopes to win Zelensky’s pledge to negotiate an end to the war.
