Trump celebrates James Comey indictment: ‘One of the worst human beings’
President Donald Trump cheered former FBI Director James Comey’s indictment on Thursday, calling him “one of the worst human beings” in America.
Last week, Trump pressed Attorney General Pam Bondi to enact punishment against Comey and others. Comey is charged with making a false statement and obstructing a congressional proceeding.
“JUSTICE IN AMERICA! One of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to is James Comey, the former Corrupt Head of the FBI,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Today he was indicted by a Grand Jury on two felony counts for various illegal and unlawful acts. He has been so bad for our Country, for so long, and is now at the beginning of being held responsible for his crimes against our Nation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he added.
Bondi said in a statement that the indictment “reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case.”
Comey denied the charges against him in an Instagram video.
“My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump, but we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way. We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either,” Comey said.
“My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system. I’m innocent, so let’s have a trial and keep the faith,” he added.
The former FBI Director got in trouble earlier this year after posting a photo of the numbers “8647” while on a beach walk. “Cool shell formation on my beach walk,” Comey said on May 15.
Some took “8647” to mean Comey was calling for Trump to be removed. The government investigated him, and he was questioned by the Secret Service, but no punishment has been carried out.
The picture provoked Trump. “He knew exactly what that meant,” Trump said in an interview. “A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant, that meant assassination. And it says it loud and clear.”
