President Donald Trump excoriated Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over a recent report involving Somali immigrants in Minnesota accused of defrauding multiple government social services programs of at least $1 billion.
During Trump’s final Cabinet meeting of the year, he was asked whether Walz should resign after federal prosecutors claimed that $1 billion in taxpayer money was stolen in three separate fraud schemes, according to the New York Times.
“I think the man is a grossly incompetent man,” Trump responded on Tuesday. “I thought that from the day I watched JD [Vance] destroy in the debate.”
The president was referencing the sole vice presidential debate between then-Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) and Walz in the run-up to the presidential election. Vance was widely seen as the winner against Walz.
Democrats, according to Trump, have bad policies that will give Republicans an easier path to electoral victory during the 2028 election.
“I think we have a tremendous bench, really a tremendous bench, but no, I think that Walz is a grossly incompetent man,” Trump said. “There’s something wrong with him.”
“And when you look at what he’s done with Somalia, with Somalia, which is barely a country, you know … they have no anything. They just run around killing each other. There’s no structure,” Trump said of the Somali immigrant community in Minnesota. “And when I see somebody like Ilhan Omar, who I don’t know at all, but I always watch her. For years, I’ve watched her complain about our Constitution.”
Omar, a frequent foe of Trump, is the first person born in Somalia to serve in Congress, and her Minnesota district represents the largest population of Somalis in the country.
The president branded Omar as “garbage,” “incompetent,” and “terrible” during his broadside against Walz and the Somali community. “Ilhan Omar is garbage. She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage,” Trump said. “These aren’t people that work. These aren’t people that say, ‘Let’s go, come on. Let’s make this place great.’ These are people that do nothing but complain.”
The New York Times report alleges $1 billion in taxpayer money was stolen in three separate fraud schemes that were meant to support providers in assisting people at risk of homelessness, provide therapy for autistic children, and feed children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you,” Trump said. “Somebody said, ‘Oh, that’s not politically correct.’ I don’t care. I don’t want them in our country. Their country is no good for a reason. Their country stinks.”
Trump also issued a grave threat about the trajectory of the U.S. if unchecked immigration is allowed to continue.

“Our country is at a tipping point,” he said. “We could go bad. We could go one way or the other, and we’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage.”
“They complain and do nothing but b****,” Trump added. “We don’t want them in our country. Let them go back to where they came from and fix it.”
