“Rand Paul has very little understanding of the BBB, especially the tremendous GROWTH that is coming,” Trump said. “He loves voting ‘NO’ on everything, he thinks it’s good politics, but it’s not. The BBB is a big WINNER!!!”

The president then issued another post criticizing him again, claiming that the “people of Kentucky can’t stand him.”

“Rand votes NO on everything, but never has any practical or constructive ideas,” Trump added. “His ideas are actually crazy (losers!). The people of Kentucky can’t stand him. This is a BIG GROWTH BILL!”

The president did not specify or elaborate on his claim that the people of Kentucky can’t stand him. However, based on his election results, such a claim wouldn’t hold. Since he became senator, Paul has obtained over 55% of the vote. Moreover, he has incrementally increased his percentage of the vote in every senate election since then. In 2010, he won with 55.69% of the vote, while in 2016, Paul received 57.27%. In his most recent election in 2022, Paul defeated his Democratic opponent by obtaining 61.81% of all votes.    

In a Sunday interview on CBS News’s Face the Nation, the senator said he wanted to support Trump’s bill but also did not want to increase the debt ceiling by $5 trillion.

“Look, I want to vote for it. I am for the tax cuts,” Paul said. “I voted for the tax cuts before. I want the tax cuts to be permanent. But at the same time, I don’t want to raise the debt ceiling $5 trillion.”

“If you take the debt ceiling off the bill, in all likelihood, I can vote for what the agreement is on the rest of the bill, and it doesn’t have to be perfect to my liking,” Paul added. “If I vote for the $5 trillion debt, who’s left in Washington that cares about the debt? The GOP will own the debt once they vote for this.”
