Trump blasts ‘publicity seeking’ Macron for giving incorrect reason he left G7 Summit – Washington Examiner
In a recent incident at the G7 Summit, former President Donald Trump abruptly left the conference, leading to speculation about his reasons for departure. French President Emmanuel Macron suggested that Trump’s exit was linked to addressing tensions between Iran and Israel, particularly in efforts to establish a ceasefire. Though, Trump refuted this claim, accusing Macron of spreading incorrect data and asserting he was addressing something “much bigger” than a ceasefire. Trump also expressed disappointment over Iran not accepting his proposed deal and urged for the evacuation of Tehran, emphasizing the necessity for Iran to refrain from developing nuclear weapons. Simultaneously occurring, Macron cautioned against escalating military action against Iran, describing it as a potential strategic error. The situation showcases the ongoing complexities of international diplomacy and the differing perspectives on how to handle Middle eastern conflicts.
Trump blasts ‘publicity seeking’ Macron for giving incorrect reason he left G7 Summit
President Donald Trump unexpectedly departed the G7 Summit on Monday without providing a definitive explanation as to why.
Many suspected it had to do with addressing the conflict in the Middle East between Iran and Israel. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later confirmed this in a social media post on X. French President Emmanuel Macron inferred that Trump departed the summit early to work on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
“If the United States can achieve a ceasefire, that’s a very good thing,” Macron told the media at the G7 Summit. “There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange. An offer was made especially to get a ceasefire and to then kick-start broader discussions.”
“We have to see now whether the sides will follow,” he added.
Trump vehemently denied this assertion in a post on his Truth Social account, in which he criticized Macron for spreading false information. He always said he was working on something “much bigger” than a ceasefire agreement.
“Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a “cease fire” between Israel and Iran,” Trump posted. “Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!”
Trump’s comments come after he issued an ominous post earlier in the day, lamenting that Iran did not take his proposed deal. He also expressed concern for people who would die in the conflict because of Iran’s refusal, stating it was a “shame” and a “waste of human life” while repeating his long-held belief that Iran must not have nuclear weapons. Trump also issued a warning for people in Tehran, Iran’s capital, to evacuate the city.
“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign,” Trump posted. “What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”
Meanwhile, Macron warned about excessively bombing Iran or trying to force a regime change through airstrikes. He made the comments earlier in the day before Trump left the summit. He claimed that such a move would be a “strategic error.”
“All who have thought that by bombing from the outside you can save a country in spite of itself have always been mistaken,” Macron said.
