President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will hold a press conference on Friday at 1:30 PM EST in the oval Office for Elon Musk’s “last day” as a senior adviser. Musk recently criticized Trump’s extensive spending bill and stated his departure from the administration, emphasizing his contributions to reducing wasteful spending. Despite Musk’s exit, Trump indicated he may continue to involve Musk in an advisory capacity in the future. Vice President JD Vance affirmed that the “DOGE effort” will persist and dismissed media claims suggesting the end of Musk’s influence in the administration.

President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that he will hold a press conference on Friday for Elon Musk‘s “last day.”

Musk announced he was leaving his administration role as Trump’s senior adviser on Wednesday after he criticized the president’s “big, beautiful bill” for being a “massive spending bill” that undermined his Department of Government Efficiency’s work.

Trump said it will “not really” be Musk’s last day with the administration because he will “always” be with them, suggesting he may hold an external role in the future.

“I am having a Press Conference tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. EST, with Elon Musk, at the Oval Office. This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way. Elon is terrific! See you tomorrow at the White House,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Musk posted about his departure on X Wednesday.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” he posted. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”

Vice President JD Vance said in an interview Thursday evening that the “DOGE effort will continue” and that “Elon will continue to be an important adviser for both me and the president.”

Vance added that the media narrative suggesting the “Elon era” is over is “totally wrong.”
