Trump and Vance not invited to Cheney’s funeral

Former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance were not invited to former Vice President Dick Cheney’s funeral, which will be held on Thursday at the Washington National Cathedral. The service will be attended by former Presidents George W. Bush and Joe Biden, as well as all living former vice presidents. Notably, former Presidents Bill Clinton and barack Obama will not attend. Speakers at the funeral include George W. Bush and Cheney’s daughter, Liz Cheney.

Dick Cheney had a contentious relationship wiht Trump, especially due to Trump’s criticism of Liz Cheney’s role during the inquiry of the January 6 Capitol riots. Cheney publicly condemned Trump in 2022, calling him a significant threat to the republic and expressing his intention to vote for Kamala Harris in 2024, which led Trump to label him a “RINO” on social media.

Also expected at the funeral are prominent political figures such as Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and Supreme Court Justices John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and Elena Kagan. Cheney passed away on November 4 at age 84 due to health complications at his home in Wyoming.

Trump and Vance excluded from Cheney’s funeral

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance will not attend former Vice President Dick Cheney’s funeral Thursday, as they were not invited.

Former President George W. Bush, former President Joe Biden, and all living former vice presidents will attend the funeral. Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama will not attend.

Speakers at the funeral will include Bush, with whom Cheney served in the White House from 2001 to 2009, and Cheney’s daughter, former congresswoman Liz Cheney.

The elder Cheney long disliked Trump for repeatedly criticizing his daughter for her conduct during the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney said in a 2022 campaign ad for his daughter.

Cheney added, “He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election, and he lost big. I know it. He knows it, and deep down, I think most Republicans know.”

He also said he would vote for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections, which prompted Trump to call him “an irrelevant RINO,” short for Republican in name only, on Truth Social.

Other prominent political figures expected to be in attendance include House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), and Supreme Court Justices John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and Elena Kagan.
