Trans weightlifter breaks women’s record, international consortium humbles ‘average male’ with powerful reminder.
Trans Weightlifter Smashes Women’s Record, International Consortium Humbles the ‘Mediocre Male’ with a Big Reminder
Attention all “mediocre male” athletes: Women have had enough of you infiltrating their sports for your own ego boost. It’s time to step aside and let women shine.
The latest example of this transgender controversy occurred at the 2023 Canadian Powerlifting Union’s Western Canadian Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships. Anne Andres, a man who identifies as a woman, broke several women’s powerlifting records during the competition.
According to OutKick’s calculations, Andres lifted a staggering 1,317 pounds over three events, while the second-place finisher lifted only 854 pounds. This significant advantage allowed Andres to claim a Canadian women’s national record and an unofficial women’s world record.
This is NOT a legitimate National Record.
This is a mediocre lift by a mediocre male who is being allowed to lift against women because… hair colour?
Shame on the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU).
This is discrimination against the female competitors.#SaveWomensSports pic.twitter.com/F8mdFpnz01— International Consortium on Female Sport (ICFS) (@ICFSport) August 14, 2023
Unsurprisingly, the International Consortium on Female Sport (ICFS) strongly condemned this unfair competition. They called it a “mediocre lift by a mediocre male” and criticized the Canadian Powerlifting Union for allowing discrimination against female competitors. The ICFS’s hashtag, “#SaveWomensSports,” resonated with many.
Meanwhile, Andres proudly boasted about his victory on Instagram, claiming to have broken multiple records. This isn’t the first time Andres has courted controversy. In February, he questioned why female powerlifters struggle with bench pressing, prompting backlash from fellow athletes who pointed out the significant testosterone advantage he possesses.
Unfortunately, this issue extends beyond powerlifting. Men who identify as women are finding success in various women’s sports, from cycling to mixed martial arts to running. It’s a disturbing trend that needs to be addressed.
Thankfully, there are signs of pushback against this unfairness. Sports governing bodies are revising rules to prevent men from competing against women, and advocacy groups like the ICFS are fighting for women’s rights in sports. It’s time for common sense to prevail.
Let’s hope that women’s records remain intact and that women can continue to excel in their respective sports. The fight to preserve the integrity of women’s sports is far from over.
