TikTok enthusiast’s threatening message to U.S. Senator: ‘I will locate and harm you
TikTok Enthusiast Threatens Senator Over App Sale Bill
An avid supporter of TikTok — a controversial social media app owned by ByteDance, a Chinese Communist Party-controlled company — crossed a line by menacing Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) over a crucial Senate bill. The bill aims to enforce the sale of the company, or it will face a ban in the U.S.
Threatening Voicemail Incites Outrage
Senator Tillis shared the disturbing voicemail received by his office, expressing concerns over the alarming nature of the threat. “TikTok’s misinformation campaign is pushing people to call their members of Congress, and callers like this who communicate threats against elected officials could be committing a federal crime,” Tillis revealed.
Highlighting the potential risks, Tillis remarked, “The Communist-Chinese aligned company is proving just how dangerous their current ownership is. Great work, TikTok.”
Company Mobilizes Users in Desperate Response
In a bid to thwart the impending bill, TikTok mobilized its user base, urging them to contact their representatives and protest the legislation. The U.S. House of Representatives had already endorsed the bill with a resounding 352-65 vote.
According to The New York Post, TikTok’s plea to users warned, “If the Senate votes to ban TikTok, this means you could lose your right to self-expression.” The alert also contained instructions on how users could reach out to their respective state senators.
Threatening Tone Raises Alarms
The audio clip released by Senator Tillis depicted a disturbing message from a woman laughing as she threatened violence, saying, “Okay listen, if you ban TikTok, I will find you and shoot you.” The concerning message escalated further with chilling words: “And people make money off there, too, you know. I’m trying to get rich like that. Anyway, I’ll shoot you and find you and cut you into pieces. Bye.”
