The View hosts puzzled over Biden family probes: ‘No bribery plot?’
The View Hosts Express Confusion Over House Republicans’ “Bribery Scheme” Claims
The hosts of the popular ABC show, The View, were left puzzled on Wednesday as they discussed the House Republicans’ repeated mentions of a supposed “bribery scheme” involving the Biden family.
During a segment focused on Hunter Biden’s court appearance in relation to alleged tax crimes, the show played a soundbite of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) discussing the possibility of an impeachment inquiry.
“What bribery scheme?!” co-host Whoopi Goldberg exclaimed, her face reflecting her confusion after hearing McCarthy’s comments about impeachment.
Goldberg continued, “I’m sorry, but it’s always something different every day. They’re either freaking out about Barbie or getting upset over Budweiser beer—”
“Just Bud Light,” co-host Sara Haines interjected, correcting Goldberg.
Goldberg concluded that the rhetoric was simply a result of President Joe Biden winning the 2020 election.
“What is really happening here? I mean, how much punishment does Biden need just because he won and they lost?” Goldberg questioned her co-hosts.
Adding to the discussion, Joy Behar drew a comparison to former President Donald Trump.
“That’s the problem. They keep seeing these indictments coming down from Trump, and they’re like, ‘What are we going to do?’ Let’s turn it around and make it about him—about Biden instead. Take your eyes off Trump, even though he’s a criminal, and put your eyes on this guy instead,” Behar explained.
Co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in, expressing her concern about the Republicans’ tactics.
“I think what is just terrible, and Ana [Navarro] said it the other day, is that they are weaponizing Joe Biden’s son against him,” Hostin stated. “Joe Biden has experienced so much pain and loss. He lost his wife, he lost his little girl. He lost his Beau.”
Hostin continued, “Now he has a son who clearly has a drug addiction… he’s pleading guilty, but that still isn’t enough for the Republicans.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that only the “fringe base within the House Republican Conference” was pushing for an impeachment inquiry, and she labeled it as “a mistake.”
