‘The Squad’ proposes resolution urging Israel to halt response to Hamas attack.
‘The Squad’ Calls for Israel to Cease Response to Hamas Terror Attack
Members of the progressive Democratic group known as “The Squad” are urging Israel to put an end to its military retaliation following the massacre of over 1,400 civilians by Hamas.
A resolution demanding a ceasefire has been drafted by Democratic Representative Cori Bush of Missouri, a member of The Squad. Last week, Bush called for an end to military aid to Israel in response to the attack.
Other members of The Squad, including Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Jamaal Bowman, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, along with several other representatives, have co-sponsored the resolution.
Calling for a ceasefire now is a transparent ploy by the anti-Israel Squad to paint Israel as the aggressor and allow Hamas to stay in power.

The resolution emphasizes the urgent need for a ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and deliver humanitarian aid to those in need. However, it is unlikely to pass in the Republican-controlled House.
By calling for a ceasefire with 199 Israeli hostages in Gaza, after Hamas death squads brutally murdered 1,300 Israelis, you are *literally* calling on us to stand by. https://t.co/fK4iV85UuX

Bush and other members of The Squad express their grief for the lives lost and advocate for diplomatic efforts to prevent further violence and save lives.
Despite The Squad’s push for a ceasefire, some Democrats have criticized their fellow party members. However, Representative Ritchie Torres of New York reaffirms the Democratic Party’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself.
“Every country, every sovereign state has the right to defend itself, and if you and your neighbors were the targets, had your homes invaded, if you and your neighbors were murdered or wounded or terrorized, what would you expect your government to do?” Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres of New York has said, according to The Washington Post.

Who do critics blame for the ongoing violence between Israel and Hamas, and what is their perspective on Israel’s right to protect its citizens?
Ur children were under threat, you would want your government to defend and protect you,” Torres said in a statement.
Supporters of The Squad argue that Israel’s military response is disproportionate and causing unnecessary harm to innocent Palestinian civilians.
Hamas launched a terror attack on Israeli civilians, seeking to kill and harm as many innocent people as possible. Israel is defending itself from this attack. The focus should be on Hamas, not Israel, which is acting in self-defense. #IsraelUnderAttack

However, critics argue that Hamas is to blame for the violence and that Israel has the right to protect its citizens from terrorist attacks.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in the deaths of numerous civilians on both sides. The international community has called for an end to the violence and a return to peace negotiations.
President Joe Biden has expressed his support for a ceasefire and called on both sides to de-escalate the situation. He has also reiterated Israel’s right to defend itself but emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution.
In a statement, Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, a member of The Squad, said, “We must prioritize the safety and well-being of all people, regardless of their nationality or religion. The violence must end, and diplomatic efforts must be made to address the root causes of this conflict.”
The Squad’s resolution adds to the ongoing debate within the Democratic Party over the U.S.’s relationship with Israel and its approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
While some Democrats support a more critical stance towards Israel and a reconsideration of military aid, others maintain that unwavering support for Israel is crucial for national security concerns and maintaining a strong ally in the region.
The resolution drafted by The Squad highlights the divided opinions within the party and raises questions about the future of U.S.-Israel relations.
Regardless of the outcome of the resolution, the calls for a ceasefire reflect the urgent need for an end to the violence and a return to peaceful negotiations. The lives of innocent civilians on both sides of the conflict are at stake, and a diplomatic solution is crucial to prevent further loss of life and ensure a more stable and peaceful future for the region.
