The Most Dangerous Woman in the World: Kim Yo Jong
An expert on North Korea claims that the nation’s peril doesn’t solely stem from leader Kim Jong Un, but rather from his sister, Kim Yo Jong.
According to Fox News, Sung Yoon Lee, a professor at the Fletcher School at Tufts University, asserts that Kim Yo Jong is “indeed the most dangerous woman in the world in all of Korean history, perhaps world history.”
Lee has written a captivating book titled “The Sister,” which delves into the extraordinary journey of a woman ascending to power in North Korea.
Despite her relatively young age of 36, Kim Yo Jong challenges the stereotypical image of her male-dominated nation, bringing a softer and more nuanced perspective.
Lee emphasizes that she should be taken seriously, especially considering her recent visit to Russia alongside her brother and her regular presence at crucial meetings. There is even speculation about her potential succession.
Lee highlights the unprecedented nature of Kim Yo Jong’s role, stating, “We have never seen this in North Korea, in Korean history, in world history, a female co-despotess — a female co-leader of a criminal regime — issuing nuclear threats and saying that I have the authority to nuke you, a peaceful, democratic neighboring state in South Korea.”

According to Lee, Kim Yo Jong poses a unique and significant threat.
He warns against underestimating her, stating, “When she says, ‘OK, let’s talk about denuclearization or normalization of diplomatic relations,’ many of us will be prone to wanting to believe her just because she is a woman. So, she is ambitious, she is smart, she is ruthless and, therefore, we should take her very seriously and not patronize her.”
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Lee reveals that some North Korean officials refer to Kim Yo Jong as a “bloodthirsty demon” and “the devil woman.”
Recently, she represented North Korea on the world stage, criticizing the alliance between the United States and South Korea, as reported by NBC.
She openly scolded President Joe Biden, labeling him as senile and accusing him of miscalculating and irresponsibly brave actions.
Kim Yo Jong dismissed Biden’s warning about the regime’s aggression, stating that North Korea would not pay heed to a “nonsensical remark from the person in his dotage.”
She further asserted, ”The more the enemies are dead set on staging nuclear war exercises, and the more nuclear assets they deploy in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula, the stronger the exercise of our right to self-defense will become in direct proportion to them.”
It is clear that Kim Yo Jong’s influence and potential impact cannot be underestimated.

Rising to Power
Kim Yo Jong’s rise to power has been nothing short of remarkable. As the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, she initially played a crucial role in promoting the regime’s propaganda as the deputy director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Workers’ Party. However, her influence has grown significantly in recent years.
Her increased involvement in key political events has not gone unnoticed. In 2018, she made headlines at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, as she became the first member of the ruling Kim family to visit South Korea since the Korean War. Kim Yo Jong’s charm offensive was seen as an attempt to improve North Korea’s international image.
A Softer Image
Kim Yo Jong’s image contrasts with the stereotypical perception of power in North Korea as male-dominated and aggressive. Her role as the face of North Korean diplomacy has allowed her to present a more nuanced and approachable image to the world.
She has been described as a key advisor to her brother, providing him with vital guidance on international relations and strategy. Her efforts have positioned her as a potential successor to Kim Jong Un, should the need arise.
The Most Dangerous Woman
As Sung Yoon Lee argues, Kim Yo Jong’s position as a female co-leader of a criminal regime, coupled with her authority to issue nuclear threats, makes her the most dangerous woman in the world. Her presence and increasing involvement in North Korea’s decision-making processes have raised concerns among international observers.
Kim Yo Jong’s recent visit to Russia alongside her brother further solidifies her significance within the regime. While some speculate about her potential succession, it remains uncertain what role she will play in North Korea’s future leadership.
An Uncertain Future
The rise of Kim Yo Jong and her potential succession bring both uncertainty and a glimmer of hope for change in one of the most secretive and repressive regimes in the world. While her softer image may appeal to some, it is essential not to overlook the dangerous implications of her authority and role within the regime.
International efforts must continue to monitor and engage with North Korea to ensure stability and progress in the region. The question of what lies ahead for Kim Yo Jong and her impact on North Korea’s future remains unanswered, but one thing is certain: she is a force to be reckoned with.
