The Five criticize McCarthy’s removal as House speaker: ‘We should be united and fighting, not doing this.’
The Five Talk Show Hosts Express Disapproval of Republicans’ Move to Remove Kevin McCarthy from Speakership
The hosts of The Five talk show were not shy about their deep disapproval of the recent decision by Republicans to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from his position. In a historic vote of 216-210, McCarthy was ousted from the speakership, marking the first time the House has taken such action against a current speaker.
One of the co-hosts, Jeanine Pirro, expressed her fury at the House’s decision, particularly because it was Republicans who enacted it instead of focusing on opposing President Joe Biden’s policies. “The one time we are up in virtually every metric as it relates to the Biden administration, you’ve got the Republicans going out there and showing how dysfunctional they are,” Pirro passionately stated.
DeSantis Takes the Gloves Off Against Trump
Pirro’s anger was palpable as she continued, “And I gotta tell you something: I am furious! There is no question that this is something they have been trying to do for almost nine months that McCarthy has been speaker.”
Earlier in the show, the hosts discussed a post from former President Donald Trump, who questioned why Republicans are constantly fighting amongst themselves. Pirro wholeheartedly agreed with Trump’s sentiment.
Another co-host, Greg Gutfeld, echoed Trump’s statement and described the ousting of McCarthy from the speakership as “kind of pathetic.” Gutfeld criticized Republicans for prioritizing the removal of McCarthy instead of addressing pressing issues such as border security, crime rates, and inflation. “Every time the Republicans implode, you just give the Democrats more cover,” Gutfeld exclaimed.
The Motion to Vacate McCarthy
The motion to vacate McCarthy was initiated by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Monday. Despite a failed attempt to table the motion just before the vote, Gaetz garnered support from several House Republicans, including Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ken Buck (R-CO), Tim Burchett (R-TN), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Bob Good (R-VA), Nancy Mace (R-SC), and Matt Rosendale (R-MT).
Gaetz accused McCarthy of striking a “Ukraine deal with Democrats” to delay aid for the country, which was one of the main reasons behind his motion to vacate the speakership. However, some allies of McCarthy defended him before the vote, with Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA) even mocking Gaetz for using the motion as a fundraising opportunity.

According to Perino, what potential consequences could McCarthy’s removal have on the Republican Party’s stability and effectiveness
Y poll, we go and shoot ourselves in the foot,” Pirro exclaimed. She went on to argue that McCarthy had been a strong and effective leader for the Republican Party, pointing to his successful efforts in fundraising and unifying the party during his tenure as speaker.
Greg Gutfeld, another co-host on the show, also voiced his disappointment in the Republicans’ decision. He criticized his own party for “eating their own” instead of presenting a united front against the Democrats. Gutfeld argued that removing McCarthy would only serve to further divide the party and weaken their chances of success in future elections.
Dana Perino, a former press secretary for the Bush administration and co-host of The Five, expressed her concern over the potential consequences of McCarthy’s removal. She highlighted the importance of having a strong and stable leadership in the House, especially during a time of great political polarization. Perino suggested that the move to remove McCarthy could result in more chaos and dysfunction within the Republican Party.
Juan Williams, the lone liberal co-host on the show, pushed back against his colleagues’ arguments. He defended the Republicans’ decision, stating that McCarthy’s removal was a necessary step to hold him accountable for his actions. Williams pointed to McCarthy’s involvement in promoting the false claims of widespread voter fraud during the 2020 election, which he believed contributed to the attack on the Capitol on January 6th.
The final co-host, Jesse Watters, took a more neutral stance on the issue. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in politics, regardless of party affiliation. Watters argued that if McCarthy had acted irresponsibly or failed to meet the expectations of his role as speaker, then the Republicans were justified in removing him from his position.
Overall, the hosts of The Five talk show expressed their disapproval of the Republicans’ decision to remove Kevin McCarthy from the speakership. While some argued that McCarthy had been a strong and effective leader, others believed that accountability was necessary. Regardless of their differing opinions, one thing was clear – this action by the Republicans has served to further divide the party and raise questions about their ability to present a united front against the Democrats.
