The FDA Has A Chemical Abortion Pill Problem

Tracking dueling headlines about chemical abortion pills could cause whiplash, as the Trump administration has veered from side to side when it comes to the No. 1 means of abortion in America.

Pro-life advocates have long argued in citizen petitions to the FDA and in court that the deadly drugs expose women to injury, infertility, and death; empower abusers to act against mothers without their knowledge and consent; and create unmonitored abortion water pollution, the chemically tainted blood and placenta tissue, along with human remains, that are flushed into America’s waterways. If you believe the Planned Parenthood-founded Guttmacher Institute about the current volume of chemical abortions, more than 50 tons of pathological medical waste, the EPA term for the remains, pollutes our water every year.

The reasons to halt the reckless distribution permitted by the Biden administration and to do a real review are legion. And we were told one was underway. Or is it?

Recent statements from Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Marty Makary to Republican attorneys general indicate that a long-awaited review of chemical abortion pills was in process.

Good news? Time will tell, because days later, it was reported that the secretive FDA has approved another chemical abortion pill, a generic, from a company called Evita Solutions. The company writes, “[W]e seek to destigmatize abortion care, and we commit to making care accessible.”

Ironically, hours before pro-life leaders learned that the FDA had opened the door to another cheaper, generic way to destroy life, a letter from Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins had been delivered to HHS and the FDA, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice. Rumor had it that the review underway was not going well, so Hawkins asked eight clarifying questions and repeated a request to meet to discuss problems with these deadly pills.

The failures in the process include absolute neglect of abortion water pollution. This issue has been caused by the supersized distribution of chemical abortion pills, both legally and illegally, as blue states set up pill-pushing strongholds to violate the laws of their red-state neighbors.

One of the questions Hawkins directly asked is who will be doing this review, as deep-state abortion supporters seem to populate the FDA.

Reactions to this new iteration of the deadly abortion drug were intense and universal in the community of those who care about preborn babies and their mothers — and who also want clean drinking water. NPR reports, “Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri also criticized the move in a post on X, stating, ‘I have lost confidence in the leadership at FDA.’”

That concern was multiplied when Secretary Kennedy seemed to think that because abortionists do good paperwork, the abortion show must go on.

“[FDA] only approved a second generic mifepristone tablet because federal law requires approval when an application proves the generic is identical to the brand-name drug,” the HHS secretary wrote on X.

This does not pass the smell test. If a drug under review might be too dangerous for use as sold, why would you allow more of the same? Mifepristone, as a tainted rose marketed by any other name, still stinks. When a drug fails — generic or name brand — it can and should be pulled. Allowing more dangerous drugs to proliferate is, again, on those leading the FDA.

Examples of HHS acting against failed drugs include an article from Health.com earlier this year, headlined: “Nationwide Recall Hits Dozens of Common Generic Drugs — What You Need to Know.” It reads, “Nearly 40 different kinds of common generic medications are being recalled, according to a report posted by the FDA.”

Stat News reported the need to go much further, writing: “The FDA should withdraw approval of more than 400 tainted medicines.” We’ve got another for that list.

So far, some in the Trump administration have talked about mifepristone as though this is a labeling issue, apparently ignoring chemical abortion pill pushers reaching illegally from blue states into red states. But bad paperwork isn’t the core problem, and does anyone really believe that criminal enterprises set up to violate pro-life laws are worried about a product insert?

A YouGov/Survey USA poll of registered youth voters, not seen as a pro-life cohort, shows that more than 9 in 10 support health and safety standards in the distribution of chemical abortion pills and support environmental protections, reports Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement. They are among many voters who look to the Trump administration to reject business as usual, on this issue as well as many others.

If we want to Make America Healthy Again, we must reevaluate the flawed decisions of past administrations, tainted by biases and secret agendas, when it comes to chemical abortion pills in all their forms. It’s not just fluoride and food dye affecting Americans.
