11 House Republicans backed the vote to remove McCarthy.
House Moves Forward with Motion to Oust McCarthy, Setting Up Historic Vote
Allies of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made an unsuccessful attempt to table a motion to vacate the House speakership. This came after 11 Republicans and all House Democrats voted to move forward with the motion to oust McCarthy.
Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) brought the motion to vacate McCarthy on Monday. He accused the speaker of making a “Ukraine deal with Democrats” to pass aid for the country at a later date. Despite the defeat of the motion to table, the motion to vacate will be voted on later today.
Here are the 11 House Republicans who voted against tabling the motion to vacate McCarthy from the speakership:
- Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL)
- Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ)
- Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN)
- Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ)
- Rep. Bob Good (R-VA)
- Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT)
- Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN)
- Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC)
- Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL)
- Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH)
- Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO)
Not all Republicans who voted against tabling the motion have committed to voting to vacate the House speaker. However, six of them have stated that they will vote to vacate the chair. The Democratic leadership has announced their caucus will support the motion to vacate.
McCarthy faced a challenging speaker election in January, enduring 15 rounds of voting due to resistance from members of the Republican conference. If he is vacated, a similarly prolonged speaker election may occur just nine months after McCarthy took the speaker’s chair.

How does the classification of someone as a “person of interest” help law enforcement officials gather additional information or leads in their investigation?
The term “person of interest” typically refers to someone who law enforcement officials want to question or investigate in connection with a crime or ongoing investigation. This person may have knowledge about the case or may be suspected of involvement in some way. However, being classified as a person of interest does not necessarily mean the individual is guilty or involved in criminal activity. It is a way for law enforcement to gather additional information or leads in their investigation.
