Texas prosecutor spares man from death penalty in killings of 2 elderly women.

Prosecutor Decides Against Death Penalty for Serial Killer

A chilling case in⁢ McKinney, Texas has taken a⁣ surprising turn. Billy Chemirmir, a man convicted of killing two ‌elderly women and⁢ suspected of many more murders, will not face the death penalty, according to Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis.

“Billy Chemirmir is an evil person who preyed upon our⁣ most vulnerable citizens,” Willis stated.

“Although he is certainly deserving of a death sentence,‍ my decision … is informed by the fact that he has already been tried three times in another county and he will never be a free man again,” Mr. Willis said.

Details of the Case

The‍ first ⁤murder trial of Mr. Chemirmir, 50, for the slaying of Lu Thi Harris, 81, ended in mistrial in Dallas County. However, ⁢he was‍ later convicted in a second trial for Harris’ death and found guilty of another killing in the case of Mary Sue Brooks, 87.

Despite ⁢the convictions, Mr. Chemirmir has consistently maintained his innocence.

Authorities believe that⁢ Mr. Chemirmir targeted older women, murdering ⁤them and stealing their valuables.

The breakthrough in the investigation came when a 91-year-old⁣ woman survived an attack and bravely reported that Mr. Chemirmir had forced his way into⁢ her apartment at a senior living⁢ community. He allegedly‍ attempted to smother her with a pillow and took her jewelry.

Police apprehended Mr. Chemirmir the following day ‍in the⁤ parking lot of his apartment complex. He was found in possession of jewelry and cash, having‌ recently⁤ discarded a large red jewelry box. The contents of the box led investigators to the home of Lu Thi Harris, where her lifeless body was⁣ discovered.
