Texas Law Enforcement Installs Marine Barriers on Rio Grande to Deter Illegal Crossings
Texas law enforcement officials have taken action to prevent illegal aliens from crossing the Rio Grande River into the United States. Governor Greg Abbott announced the start of a new marine barrier installation project in Eagle Pass, stating that the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is overseeing the initiative.

The installation involves the use of 4-foot-wide orange spherical buoys that spin if someone tries to grab onto them, as reported by the New York Post. These barriers can be adjusted or extended as needed.
This effort is part of Texas’ “Operation Lone Star,” which aims to address the challenges caused by President Joe Biden’s immigration policies. The Texas DPS also shared updates on the project through their Twitter account.

However, not everyone is supportive of these barriers. A small business owner, Jesse Fuentes, who operates Epi’s Canoe & Kayak Team, filed a lawsuit against the state, claiming that the barriers will negatively impact his livelihood as a kayak tour guide.

A lawyer representing the company argued that Governor Abbott initiated Operation Lone Star without legal authority and accused him of using the buoys for political gain rather than a legitimate public policy objective.
Abbott responded to the lawsuit on Twitter, stating, “We will see you in court. And don’t think the Travis Co. Court will be the end of it. This is going to the Supreme Court. Texas has a constitutional right to secure our border.”
In a press release from the governor’s office, it was revealed that Operation Lone Star has resulted in over 387,000 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 30,400 criminal arrests, including over 28,500 felony charges. Additionally, Texas law enforcement has seized over 421 million lethal doses of fentanyl during this border mission.
