Tesla Model Y owner trapped inside car in hot Arizona summer after battery dies.
An Arizona Man’s Terrifying Experience with His Tesla Model Y
An Arizona man named Rick Meggison recently had a harrowing experience with his Tesla Model Y when the power suddenly died. What should have been a routine day turned into a dangerous situation for Meggison.
It happened on a scorching 100-degree day in June. Meggison found himself trapped inside his car for about 20 minutes while it was parked in his garage. The heat inside the vehicle was unbearable, and he couldn’t escape.
“I couldn’t open the doors. I couldn’t lower the windows. The computer was dead, so I couldn’t open the glove box. I couldn’t open anything,” Meggison recounted.
He realized that being stuck in the car for a longer period could be life-threatening. Fortunately, his sister was able to open the passenger door using the Tesla app, but the window cracked in the process.
Meggison believes that Tesla needs to address this issue to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. He’s not alone in his concerns.
The Importance of Battery Reliability
Norma Hubele, a car safety expert and founder of TheAutoProfessor.com, described Tesla vehicles as ”essentially a computer on wheels that’s run on a battery.” She emphasized that if the battery is not reliable or if consumers are unaware of how to override battery-related problems, it can lead to serious safety issues.
Firefighter and paramedic Paul Shoemaker also weighed in on the matter. He mentioned that there is a manual way to exit the vehicle, but many people are not aware of it.

The Tesla manual itself warns that not all Model Y vehicles are equipped with a manual release for the rear doors. This lack of awareness and labeling can be problematic in emergency situations.
Similar Incidents Raise Concerns
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred. In December, a British Tesla owner experienced a similar situation, and in April, a woman in Oregon found herself trapped in her Tesla Model 3 on a freezing day.
It’s clear that there is a need for better education and awareness regarding emergency exits and manual releases in Tesla vehicles.
As for Rick Meggison, he hopes that his ordeal will prompt Tesla to take action and prevent others from going through the same terrifying experience.
