Rep. However, according to the Smithsonian, the phrase is based on a “myth” that Washington was built on a swamp, when in fact it was constructed on a firm and dry riverbank.
This is not the first time Burchett has voiced his opinion on the matter. In a previous interview with Newsline, he emphasized the need to treat the nation’s capital as a sewer, stating, “It is an open sewer, and we better start treating it that way.”
