Teamsters backs Goldman over Lander in New York House race

teamsters Local 237 has endorsed Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) over former New York City comptroller Brad Lander in the race for New York’s 10th Congressional District. The union praised Goldman as a proven advocate for working families who has delivered jobs, supported pro-labor legislation, and seeks higher taxes on the ultra-wealthy. Goldman launched his bid for a third term and is already backed by Gov. Kathy Hochul and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, along with IBEW Local 3 and other national unions.

Brad Lander, viewed as further left and with ties to socialist-leaning allies, is supported by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Working Families Party; UAW Region 9A has also endorsed Lander. The campaign has included disputes over positions on Israel-Lander has said he doesn’t do “AIPAC’s bidding,” while Goldman has received AIPAC-associated contributions and has criticized some of Mamdani’s rhetoric.

Teamsters backs Goldman over Lander after incumbent launched campaign

A New York City labor union in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is endorsing Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY), who launched his reelection bid for a third term last week.

Teamsters Local 237 released a statement on Thursday backing Goldman over former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, who exhibits more socialist leanings than the progressive incumbent.

“A member of the Labor Caucus and co-founder of the Dads Caucus, Rep. Goldman knows what it takes to fight and win for working families and organized labor,” Teamsters Local 237 President Gregory Floyd said, as first reported by Politico. “He delivered more good-paying jobs for New Yorkers, championed legislation that protects the right to organize, wants to make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share, and more.”

Goldman is running to hold on to his seat in New York’s 10th Congressional District, starting his 2026 reelection campaign with endorsements from Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Meanwhile, Lander is backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York’s Working Families Party.

Making the endorsement before his inauguration, the socialist described Lander as a “trusted ally and partner of mine” and argued he will “continue delivering for those who need government to show up for them the most.” The two previously cross-endorsed each other during New York City’s ranked choice mayoral primary.

Lander cast himself as someone who doesn’t do “AIPAC’s bidding,” referring to the pro-Israel lobbying organization that contributed over $190,000 to Goldman’s campaign during the 2024 election cycle.

Even though Goldman and Lander are both Jewish, only Goldman has openly criticized Mamdani’s rhetoric on Israel.

In terms of labor support, Goldman now has Teamsters Local 237 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3 in his corner. Historically, he has been supported by many national unions.

So far, Lander secured an endorsement from United Auto Workers Region 9A earlier this month.

“UAW Region 9A is excited to endorse Brad Lander for Congress. We have known and worked with Brad for years and know he walks the walk,” UAW Region 9A Director Brandon Mancilla said. “In every role he’s served, he’s called out bad bosses, walked picket lines with all our locals, and leveraged the tools of his office to fight for workers. From housing to workers’ rights, we know Brad will be a steadfast champion for working people in Congress.”
