California lieutenant governor urges Taylor Swift to delay concerts amidst ongoing hotel worker strike.

California Lawmakers and Hotel Workers Urge Taylor Swift to Show Solidarity in Labor Strike

California lawmakers and hotel ⁣workers are making a heartfelt plea to Taylor Swift, urging her to delay ⁢her highly anticipated Eras tour concert in Los Angeles. This request comes as a show of⁣ support⁢ for the ongoing labor strike affecting hotel employees.

Soaring Hotel Prices Impacting Workers

Democratic California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis recently⁢ signed a letter addressed to Swift, highlighting the detrimental impact of skyrocketing hotel room prices on the working conditions of hotel employees.

A Cry for Help

The letter states, “The hotels are making more money than ever, but many workers cannot afford to live close to where they work. Some of them even sleep ‍in their cars between shifts. Others are at risk of losing their homes.”

Kounalakis, who ⁢is running to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) in 2026, took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to share photos of herself attending Swift’s Eras tour in Santa Clara over the weekend.

A Unified Call for Action

The plea, posted by Unite HERE ⁢Local ‍11, representing ‍union workers at 60 hotels in Los Angeles and Orange counties, garnered support from numerous state elected officials, including⁤ two California state senators — Dave Min and‍ Maria Elena Durazo.

The letter reads, “Hotel workers are fighting ⁤for their lives. They are fighting for a living wage.⁤ They have gone on strike. Now, they are asking for your ⁣support. Speak Now! Stand with hotel workers and‍ postpone your concerts,”⁤ referencing⁤ Swift’s⁢ third studio album, Speak Now.

A Historic Strike

This year, thousands of hotel workers in California participated in the largest multi-hotel strike in the state’s history, demanding better pay and benefits.

A ⁣Plea for Fairness

Hotel workers, in an open‍ letter published by the Los ⁤Angeles Times, implored Swift to postpone her LA concerts in solidarity with their labor strike. They expressed their frustration with hotel rooms doubling ⁤and tripling in price due to her concerts, while they receive no additional compensation.

As of now, Swift has not responded to ‍the ⁣requests of elected officials and hotel workers. However, her United States concerts are expected to break records and become the highest-grossing tour of all time.
