Muslim Americans in swing states launch #AbandonBiden movement
Muslim Americans Launch #AbandonBiden Campaign Over Gaza Conflict
Muslim Americans in key swing states are taking a stand against President Joe Biden, specifically criticizing his support for Israel during the war in Gaza. While Biden has faced criticism from various groups regarding his handling of the conflict, Muslim Americans have been particularly vocal in their opposition. In an effort to turn their discontent into action, Muslim leaders from Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania are gathering in Dearborn, Michigan for a conference called #AbandonBiden.
Expulsion of George Santos from House of Representatives
“This #AbandonBiden 2024 conference is set against the backdrop of the upcoming 2024 presidential election and the decision to withdraw support for President Biden due to his unwillingness to call for a ceasefire and protect innocents in Palestine and Israel,” the group stated to Axios.
“Leaders from swing states will collaborate to ensure Biden’s defeat in the 2024 election,” they added.
Muslim American figures have long warned that Biden’s support for Israel could cost him support in the 2024 election. Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has been particularly outspoken, accusing Biden of being complicit in war crimes. In a post on October 17, she falsely blamed Israel for bombing a Gaza hospital and criticized Biden’s approach to the conflict.
“Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital, killing 500 Palestinians including doctors, children, and patients,” Tlaib posted. “[President Biden], this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire and help de-escalate. Your war-focused approach has opened my eyes, as well as those of many Palestinian Americans and Muslim Americans like me. We will remember where you stood.”
Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan revealed that all the Muslims he knows declared during Thanksgiving that they would not vote for Biden due to his stance on the war. Hasan emphasized the genuine anger felt by Muslim Americans and urged Democrats to acknowledge it.
“I’ve had the same conversations with all my Muslim friends and family members over Thanksgiving. Not a single one says they will vote for Biden again, despite having voted for him in 2020. Every single one says it’s because of Gaza. Dems need to understand that the anger is very real.”

How has the expulsion of George Santos from the House of Representatives impacted Muslim Americans’ perception of their concerns being heard?
Se of Representatives
The expulsion of George Santos from the House of Representatives has ignited a wave of outrage among Muslim Americans. Santos, a Republican congressman from New York, has been a vocal supporter of Israel and has faced accusations of being biased towards Israel and neglecting the rights of Palestinians. His expulsion from the House of Representatives was seen as a victory for Muslim Americans who felt their concerns were not being heard or taken seriously. Many Muslim Americans have been disappointed with President Biden’s response to the conflict in Gaza. While Biden has called for a ceasefire and expressed support for the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians, his critics argue that his actions have not matched his words. The continued US military aid to Israel, despite reports of human rights violations and disproportionate use of force, has been a major point of contention for Muslim Americans. The #AbandonBiden campaign aims to highlight the discontent and frustration felt by Muslim Americans towards the Biden administration’s approach to the Gaza conflict. The conference in Dearborn, Michigan will bring together Muslim leaders from key swing states, where their voices and votes can have a significant impact on future elections. One of the main demands of the #AbandonBiden campaign is accountability for the actions of the Israeli government. Muslim Americans are calling on President Biden to use his influence to pressure Israel to end the occupation of Palestinian territories, lift the blockade on Gaza, and respect the rights of Palestinians. They argue that the US has a moral responsibility to ensure that human rights are upheld and that justice is served for all parties involved in the conflict. In addition to accountability, the campaign also seeks to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Muslim Americans argue that the continuous airstrikes and destruction in Gaza have led to severe shortages of basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies. They emphasize the urgent need for humanitarian aid and relief efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, the #AbandonBiden campaign calls for a shift in US foreign policy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Muslim Americans are urging President Biden to adopt a more balanced approach, where the concerns and rights of both Israelis and Palestinians are equally considered. They believe that a one-sided approach, favoring Israel, undermines the prospects for a just and lasting peace in the region. The #AbandonBiden campaign is not just about expressing discontent, but also about mobilizing Muslim Americans to take concrete action. The conference in Dearborn, Michigan will serve as a platform to discuss strategies for grassroots activism, voter mobilization, and fundraising efforts to support organizations working for peace and justice in the region. Muslim Americans are calling on their elected officials to represent their concerns and values, and to ensure that their voices are heard in the political arena. They emphasize the importance of voter registration, education, and turnout as key factors in shaping future policies that reflect the interests of diverse communities, including Muslim Americans. The #AbandonBiden campaign is a reflection of the growing political consciousness and activism among Muslim Americans. It demonstrates their determination to hold their leaders accountable, advocate for human rights, and work towards a more just and inclusive society. As this movement gains momentum, it remains to be seen how it will shape the future of US politics and influence foreign policy decisions regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Demands for Accountability and Human Rights
