SWAT swarms locations near Nancy Guthrie’s home as DNA found on property
A SWAT team flocked to the area surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home Friday night, suggesting the investigation into the elderly woman’s mysterious disappearance may have taken a turn.
DNA that does not belong to Nancy Guthrie was found on her property on Friday and is being tested, along with gloves found in the surrounding area, according to officials. The same evening, three people were detained for questioning in relation to the case, according to some reports, although others indicated otherwise. The Washington Examiner reached out for comment on arrests made, but did not receive a response.
Late Friday night, over a dozen law enforcement vehicles, including a Pima County SWAT team, descended on a residence roughly two miles from Guthrie’s home, with the FBI executing a search warrant at the Tucson-area home. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed around that time that “law enforcement activity is underway at a residence near E Orange Grove Rd & N First Ave related to the Guthrie case.”
TRUMP’S DEPORTATIONS MAY HURT, NOT HELP, GOP’S POLITICAL MATH
Three people were detained for questioning in connection with the case, according to NewsNation and Fox Digital, including a man who was reportedly heading to the property that was being searched. He was detained nearby during a traffic stop, with photos from Fox depicting him in the parking lot of Culver’s restaurant. Police are also investigating a Range Rover at the scene, according to the outlet.
But the apparent detentions may have ended without major breakthroughs.
The law enforcement operation concluded without any arrests, a law enforcement official told CNN, adding that authorities questioned one “cooperative” man but released him.
The raid came hours after TMZ said it received another alleged ransom note from an “intermediary,” who warned law enforcement should “be prepared to go international” in order to locate the “main individual” behind Nancy Guthrie’s abduction. Multiple media outlets have received alleged ransom notes over the past two weeks. Authorities are investigating them to determine whether they are real, or from impostors looking to take advantage of the situation.
FBI DOUBLES REWARD IN SEARCH FOR NANCY GUTHRIE AS NEW SUSPECT DETAILS RELEASED
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the elderly mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, has stretched on for over two weeks, as investigators have struggled to make a clear break in the case. Authorities were able to recover valuable doorbell camera footage of a suspect this week. The FBI says the suspect is a man between 5’9” and 5’10” tall, with an average build. He was seen carrying a 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack from Walmart, according to officials.
Investigators say they have fielded thousands of tips after releasing surveillance footage from her doorbell camera.
