President Donald Trump announced on Friday morning that the suspect in Charlie Kirk‘s murder has been captured.
“I think with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody,” Trump told the audience during an appearance on Fox & Friends.
“Everyone did a great job. We worked with the local police, the governor. Everybody did a great job,” Trump added.
The suspect was turned in by those close to him, possibly a minister, Trump added.
“We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for, but they drove into police headquarters and he’s there,” Trump said.
Trump was asked whether the gunman’s father was aware of his son’s killing of the Turning Point USA founder, but the president declined to answer the question.
“I don’t know. I’m going to let you get all those questions later,” Trump answered. “The bottom line is they have somebody that they think did it.”
Law enforcement is expected to provide an update on the manhunt at 9 a.m. on Friday.
The president praised Attorney General Pam Bondi’s efforts in handling the case during his appearance on Fox & Friends.
“Pam Bondi is incredible, by the way,” Trump said. “People don’t know what a star she is. She’s incredible. And it all worked out.”
The unidentified gunman shot the 31-year-old Kirk while he was speaking at the Utah Valley University campus on Wednesday. The FBI released a photo on Thursday of a “person of interest” and offered a $100,000 award.
