New Yorkers Encouraged to Switch School Tax Relief Programs by Dec. 31
New Yorkers who want to change their School Tax Relief exemption program, which offers a break on school property taxes or a rebate check for eligible homeowners, are urged to do so before Dec. 31.
There are two types of STAR programs in New York: the Basic School Tax Relief Program and the Enhanced School Tax Relief. While individuals cannot receive benefits from both programs, they can switch from the STAR credit to the STAR exemption if they meet the eligibility criteria. To ensure the STAR exemption appears on their school tax bill in the year they register, applicants should apply on or before Dec. 31.
Basic STAR Exemption
The Basic STAR exemption, provided by New York City, will be reflected on eligible homeowners’ property tax bills. Homeowners with incomes below $250,000, regardless of age, can qualify for this exemption. On average, eligible homeowners receive a Basic STAR check of $778.
Enhanced STAR Exemption
The Enhanced STAR exemption, offered by New York State, offers a larger benefit to seniors who meet income and eligibility requirements. To qualify, applicants must be 65 or older by Dec. 31 of the exemption year. If the property is jointly owned, only one spouse or family member needs to meet the age requirement. The total income limit for all owners and resident spouses or registered domestic partners cannot exceed $98,700, according to the New York City Department of Finance. On average, eligible seniors receive an Enhanced STAR check of $1,407, which should be issued by the end of the year, depending on the application date.
Don’t miss out on these valuable tax relief programs! Take advantage of the opportunity to switch before the deadline and potentially save on your school property taxes.
In what ways do dreams offer insights into the workings of our subconscious mind, and how do these symbolic meanings contribute to our understanding of ourselves
Actually, no one really knows for sure. Some speculate that dreams are a way for the brain to process and organize information from the day, or to work through unresolved emotions and experiences. Others believe dreams have a deeper, symbolic meaning and can provide insights into our subconscious mind. Ultimately, the true purpose of dreams remains a mystery and is still a topic of debate among scientists and psychologists.
