IRS announces 13-day deadline for taxpayers to claim 2019 refunds.

Don’t Miss Out on Your Tax Refund from 2019!

The clock is ticking! You have just 13 days left to claim your tax refund from 2019 if you’re one of the lucky individuals owed money by the government.

The IRS is sounding the alarm, reminding taxpayers in the United States to file their tax return for the 2019 tax year by July 17. Surprisingly, there are still 1.5 million people who haven’t claimed their federal refunds, and the estimated median refund is a whopping $893!

“Time is running out for people owed a tax refund in 2019,” warns IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. “The final window closes on July 17 for taxpayers who didn’t file a tax return for 2019 to claim their refund.”

Who Qualifies for a Refund?

To be eligible for a refund, you must meet certain income thresholds. If you’re single without qualifying children, your income must be below $15,570. For single individuals with one qualifying child, the threshold is $41,094. If you’re married or filing jointly with one child, the limit is $46,884. For more detailed guidelines and income limits, visit the IRS webpage.

The amount of your refund will depend on your household’s tax status. If you’re a low-income or moderate-income worker, you may be eligible for the earned income tax credit, a valuable tax break that takes inflation into account each year for both part-time and full-time employees.

It’s important to note that if you haven’t filed your tax returns for 2020 and 2021, your 2019 tax refund could be held. The law allows taxpayers up to three years to file and claim their refunds before the money is kept by the Treasury.

How to Claim Your Refund

The IRS has provided several options for obtaining the necessary documents to file your 2019 tax forms. You can request copies from your employer or bank, or order an income transcript through the IRS government website. For a quicker turnaround, you can also order a free wage and income transcript using the Get Transcript Online tool.

According to the IRS, California and Texas have the highest estimated number of individuals who may have unclaimed refunds. In each of these states, over 100,000 people could be entitled to a tax refund.

“The IRS continues to urge people who may have overlooked filing during the pandemic to act quickly before they lose their final chance to claim a potentially substantial refund,” emphasizes Commissioner Werfel.

Don’t let your tax refund slip through your fingers! Take action now and secure the money you’re owed from 2019.
